Galaxia is looking for a Mechanical Engineer who will complete mechanical design, FEA, and physical integration of our satellite platforms. In this role, you will coordinate closely with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams to ensure full satellite integration and flight readiness.
Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Engineer at Galaxia you will work on small and nanosatellites that push the boundaries of what compact spacecraft can do. You'll be trusted to make real engineering judgment calls, defend your designs in reviews, and iterate fast when test data tells you something needs to change.
Design & Analysis
- CAD modeling and detailed component design for spacecraft subsystems, structures, and mechanisms
- FEM, stress analysis, and simulations for launch and orbital environments.
- Thermal modelling and analysis of Galaxia’s satellite platforms.
- Analyze spacecraft dynamics and mechanical behaviors across launch and operational phases.
Test & Verification
- Lead or support environmental test campaigns (vibration, thermal vacuum, shock) and troubleshoot test anomalies
- Contribute to design reviews and iterate quickly based on test data and mission requirements
Integration & Fabrication
- Work closely with electrical and systems engineers on mechanical/electrical integration, harness routing, and packaging
- Support assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) of flight hardware and mechanical ground support equipment.
- Collaborate closely with electronics and systems engineering teams to integrate spacecraft hardware.
Documentation
- Produce detailed engineering and qualification drawings and documentation.
Requirements
What we look for:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 2+ years of mechanical engineering experience, ideally in aerospace, satellites, robotics, or another hardware-intensive industry.
- Robust proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, NX, or equivalent).
- Experience with FEM tools and structural/stress simulation (FEA).
- Experience with component design and mechanical hardware prototyping.
What sets you apart:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering or related discipline.
- Hands-on spacecraft or payload AIT (Assembly, Integration, and Testing) experience.
- Working knowledge of space thermal control hardware and thermal modeling tools.
- Understanding of spacecraft dynamics, vibration testing, and orbital mechanics.
- Prior experience in the space, aerospace, or defense industry.
