Mechanical Engineering Expert

Position: Mechanical Engineering Expert

Type: Hourly Contract

Compensation: $70–$80/hour

Location: Remote

About the Opportunity

Mercor is seeking senior Mechanical Engineering professionals to design evaluation tasks for AI systems operating in Fortune 500 enterprise product design and manufacturing environments.

The role focuses on building realistic engineering scenarios that reflect the design complexity, safety requirements, regulatory considerations, and production scale found at major industrial organizations.

Experts can contribute to either or both standards tracks: U.S. (ASME) and International (ISO). You will create enterprise-level mechanical engineering scenarios, develop reference solutions, and write evaluation rubrics that capture the judgment and decision-making expected from senior engineering leaders.

Responsibilities

- Design realistic enterprise mechanical engineering scenarios covering complex product development cycles and multi-stakeholder design reviews.
- Develop tasks involving manufacturing processes, regulatory certification, and engineering governance.
- Build evaluation tasks across:
- Product design and CAD modeling
- Thermal and fluid systems analysis
- Structural and stress analysis
- Manufacturing process engineering
- Reliability and failure analysis
- Create scenarios using enterprise engineering tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, CATIA, MATLAB/Simulink, and enterprise PLM platforms.
- Develop tasks involving Siemens Teamcenter and PTC Windchill workflows where relevant.
- Apply engineering methodologies including FEA, CFD, DFM/DFA, Six Sigma, and DFSS.
- Incorporate GD&T; principles according to ASME Y14.5 or ISO GPS standards.
- Produce reference design specifications and engineering analyses.
- Develop executive-level technical narratives that reflect real enterprise engineering decision-making.
- Create detailed rubrics that distinguish authentic senior-level engineering judgment from generic textbook or coursework knowledge.

- Ensure evaluation tasks accurately reflect real-world product design, manufacturing, safety, and certification workflows.

Required Qualifications

- 5+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer or engineering lead at a Fortune 500 company or major industrial, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing organization.
- Direct experience owning or leading large-scale product designs, manufacturing processes, or engineering certification programs.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise mechanical engineering tools and methodologies.
- Experience with complex product development and manufacturing environments.
- Understanding of safety standards, regulatory certification, and cross-functional engineering governance.
- Ability to create technically rigorous engineering scenarios and reference outputs.
- Strong understanding of either ASME or ISO engineering standards.
- Ability to distinguish senior-level engineering judgment from basic theoretical or academic knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

- Qualified engineering credential such as U.S. PE, CEng, EUR ING, or an equivalent international qualification.
- Experience working with both ASME and ISO standards.
- Experience developing engineering training curricula, technical documentation, or evaluation rubrics.
- Experience authoring design specifications, engineering analyses, or technical decision documents.
- Experience with enterprise PLM systems and large-scale engineering workflows.
- Background with major industrial, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing organizations.

Key Areas of Expertise

- Mechanical product design
- CAD modeling

Standards Tracks Experts qualified in either or both of the following standards environments are encouraged to apply:

- U.S. Track: ASME standards and related engineering practices.
- International Track: ISO standards and related engineering practices.

Compensation

- $70–$80 per hour
- Remote hourly contract engagement.
- Opportunity to contribute senior mechanical engineering expertise to the development and evaluation of advanced AI systems.

Eligibility

- Must have at least 5 years of relevant professional mechanical engineering experience.
- Experience should include work within a Fortune 500 or major industrial, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing environment.
- Must have direct ownership or significant responsibility for large-scale engineering projects.
- Must demonstrate familiarity with enterprise engineering tools, methodologies, and standards.
- Professionals with relevant ASME and/or ISO expertise are encouraged to apply.

Application Process

1. Submit a resume highlighting your mechanical engineering experience and areas of specialization.
2. Highlight experience with product design, manufacturing, engineering analysis, or certification programs.
3. Specify your experience with ASME, ISO, or both standards tracks.
4. Include relevant experience with CAD, simulation, PLM, manufacturing, or engineering analysis tools.
5. Highlight any PE, CEng, EUR ING, or equivalent professional credentials.
6. Selected candidates may be evaluated on their ability to develop realistic enterprise engineering scenarios and rigorous evaluation criteria.
