The labs of Dr. Eyal Cohen (https://lab.research.sickkids.ca/cohen/team/) and Dr.

Petros

Pechlivanoglou (https://lab.research.sickkids.ca/pechlivanoglou/)

are searching for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. This project will focus on utilizing dynamic family-based cohorts being created within Statistics Canada to model how perinatal adversities impact the long-term trajectories of families, including both birthing and non-birthing parents. Outcomes include health (e.g. mortality, incident chronic diseases) and socio-economic (e.g. income, employment, partnership).

The Postdoctoral Research

Fellow will be embedded within the research teams to develop methodology that will impact the design and analysis of rich linked data infrastructure within Statistics Canada. Part of the time will involve developing together with Statistics Canada methods to create dynamic family-based cohorts. The Fellow will also have a range of development opportunities, including supervision, communication with other researchers and clinicians, access to SickKids rich training fellowship program, opportunities to present findings at major scientific meetings, leadership of manuscript publications, and the possibility to apply for independent research funding.

There will also be opportunities to collaborate with other researchers in the Child Health Evaluative Research Program in the SickKids Research Institute.

Broadly, the two labs aim to better understand longitudinal trajectories of family units using epidemiologic,



econometric and biostatistical methodology, with collaboration, guidance, education and meaningful engagement of communities and families. Here's What You'll Get To Do

- Develop novel approaches and infrastructure to understanding the dynamic nature of family composition using Statistics Canada data such as tax filing data, vital statistics and census data.
- Develop and perform studies to evaluate family outcomes (e.g. those of parents as individuals or dyads, family units) based on exposures to varying perinatal adversities.
- Work collaboratively to implement these methods to improve the design and analysis of new projects.
- Create manuscripts for methodological and clinical journals to translate methods.
- Develop as an independent researcher.
- Co-supervise students within the labs.
- Disseminate research through presentations, seminars, workshops and manuscripts.
- Interact with the Cohen and Pechlivanoglou research teams and the CHES program, including attending journal clubs, research rounds.

Here's What You'll Need

- PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics or other relevant field.
- Experience with administrative data such as Statistics Canada datasets held in Research Data Centres
- Experience with statistical programming
- An interest in maternal and child health.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to function independently.
- Interest in collaborative and applied epidemiologic, biostatistical and/or econometric research.
- Strong organizational skills, with ability to multi-task
