- Conduct advanced diagnostics, overhauls, and repairs on diesel, LPG, natural gas, and gasoline generator systems - Respond to emergency power outages and restore critical operations through troubleshooting and root-cause analysis - Perform load bank testing, fuel system calibrations, inspections, and readiness assessments - Evaluate and modify generator systems for efficiency, reliability, and cold-weather performance - Design site-specific operating procedures for remote and extreme environments - Develop technical specifications, scopes of work, and maintenance requirements for outsourced mechanical contracts - Evaluate contractor proposals and monitor vendor performance against service agreements and engineering standards - Review contractor work and expenditures for quality, accountability, and value - Fabricate custom components and engineer temporary and permanent repairs - Modify equipment for non-standard assets and unique operational requirements - Analyze lifecycle and performance data to forecast replacements and prevent failures - Develop fleet modernization, equipment upgrade, and capital planning strategies - Establish preventive maintenance programs for generators, pumps, compressors, and specialized mechanical equipment - Train staff on inspections, operational checks, and preventive maintenance - Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, engineering requirements, and provincial legislation - Provide strategic and operational leadership for mechanical assets supporting Forestry Division infrastructure Requirements - Two-year technical diploma in heavy duty mechanic, power systems technician, gas compression technician, or a related field plus six years related experience, or equivalent education/experience - Six years of related experience for the stated diploma pathway - Experience with power generation systems supporting emergency services, communications infrastructure,
forestry operations, or critical public-sector facilities - Experience with welding, machining, fabrication, and custom mechanical design - Knowledge of lifecycle asset management, capital planning, and equipment replacement strategies - Familiarity with Alberta Building Code, electrical regulations, environmental requirements, and occupational health and safety standards - Experience working in remote or harsh environmental conditions and supporting critical infrastructure - Final candidates must undergo a criminal records check - Must be able to obtain RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status security clearance within 10 months of employment - Ability to work overtime, travel outside the home area, and work extended hours with little or no notice - Applicants must apply online and provide dates for education and work experience Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance of diesel and gas generator systems, with a solid focus on compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.
