What is the opportunity?
The Senior Director of Design will lead the strategic design vision and execution across all advisor-facing digital tools within RBC Wealth Management, Digital. This role is critical to realizing our consolidation and simplification strategy while embedding AI capabilities cohesively across our platform ecosystem. This role is also critical to help redefine an AI agentic way of working to exponentially accelerate the design process.
The Senior Director will champion user-centered design principles, drive cross-functional alignment, and ensure seamless integration of emerging AI orchestration capabilities that enhance advisor productivity and client outcomes.
What will you do?
- Define and articulate a unified design vision that guides the consolidation and simplification of fragmented advisor tools into a cohesive, intuitive ecosystem
- Establish design standards and principles that ensure consistency, accessibility, and excellence across all WM digital products
- Align design strategy with broader RBC digital transformation and AI integration roadmaps
- Audit and rationalize the current advisor tool landscape, identifying opportunities for consolidation, deduplication, and retirement of redundant solutions
- Lead the design of integrated experiences that connect previously siloed tools—portfolio management, client interaction, advisory tools, compliance systems, and reporting platforms
- Prioritize simplification through information architecture redesign, workflow optimization, and intelligent information surfacing
- Build and lead a design organization capable of supporting multiple products and workstreams simultaneously
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Risk, and Operations to ensure design decisions reflect regulatory requirements, technical feasibility, and operational realities
- Champion the voice of the advisor and end-client through research, testing, and continuous feedback loops
- Drive adoption through change management, training, and stakeholder engagement
What do you need to succeed?
Must have
- Proven ability to articulate and execute multi-year design transformations at enterprise scale
- Experience leading design-led consolidation, modernization, or platform unification initiatives
- Deep understanding of wealth management workflows, advisor personas, and client advisory models
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements (KYC, suitability, fiduciary duties) and compliance-driven design
- Understanding of financial services technology stacks and advisor tool ecosystems
- Demonstrated experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into user-facing products responsibly
- Comfort with ambiguity; ability to design for emerging, evolving AI capabilities
- Experience articulating AI limitations, risks, and ethical considerations to stakeholders
- Exceptional stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership without direct authority
- Ability to translate between design, technical, business, and regulatory languages
- Track record of building high-performing, diverse design teams
- Commitment to research-driven design and continuous testing with real users
- Experience designing for complex, high-stakes environments (e.g., financial services, healthcare)
