About the role

We are looking for a Senior QA Engineer to own product quality across a fast-moving, AI-heavy platform. The emphasis is on hands-on exploratory testing and judgment: much of what this system produces is generated rather than deterministic, and the failures that matter are behavioural rather than cosmetic. You will be the person who knows what the product actually does.

What you'll do

- Plan and run exploratory testing sessions across the application, including user journeys, permission boundaries and document workflows
- Review requirements and specifications, and identify gaps before they reach production
- Design and execute test cases for new features, and run regression testing across releases
- Investigate, reproduce and document defects with clear reproduction steps and expected behaviour
- Verify system behaviour against the database and application logs, not only the user interface
- Assess AI-generated output for quality and consistency, and report when it drifts
- Build and maintain automated regression tests for confirmed defects
- Track and report quality metrics across releases

Requirements

- 5+ years of QA experience on complex web applications
- Robust exploratory testing skills, with the judgment to find issues that were never specified




- Ability to write SQL and read application logs to establish what the system actually did
- Experience testing role-based permissions, access control and data isolation
- Working ability to write automated tests in a modern framework such as Playwright, Cypress or Selenium
- Experience using AI coding tools, and a clear view of where their output tends to fail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and direct your own testing priorities

Preferred

- Experience testing audit trails, approval flows or compliance-driven workflows
- Experience testing AI-generated or otherwise non-deterministic output
- API testing experience
- Experience in an early-stage environment, building a product from the ground up

How we work The team is small and entirely senior. There is no project manager and no formal onboarding program. You will be given context and outcomes, and you will decide how to get there. We expect engineers to scope their own work, manage their own time, and raise problems early. This suits people who learn quickly and independently, and who are comfortable making decisions without close direction.

This role is fully remote. You must be legally entitled to work in Canada and perform the work from within Canada.
