With multiple awards to our name, Larian Studios has proven that we’re dedicated to delivering high-quality role-playing games As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a Systems Designer to join the team and help us in crafting the high calibre games our fans have come to expect.
Responsibilities - Implement elements of player progression like active skills, passive features, and talents using proprietary editors and scripting languages.
- Create magical equipment, consumables, tools and other items that support the player progression and systemic gameplay.
- Compose loot tables that define item drops in containers, combat treasure, quest rewards and traders.
- Tune combat challenge, experience curve, gold prices and other numeric stats according to mathematical models.
- Analyse playtesting data and respond to feedback with changes and improvements.
- Help troubleshoot and fix bugs that come up.
- Work alongside other departments to make sure the features reach the highest possible quality bar and are shipped in full and on time.
Requirements - Basic programming skills with a scripting language (Lua, Python, Verse) or any major programming language (C++, C#) - Proficiency with data tables (Excel, Airtable) - Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Proficiency in written communication & a track record of effectively conveying design through transparent documentation - Published work in the RPG genre - shipped game, personal project, mod, wiki, critique - An RPG Gamer with a passion for CRPGs. Nice to haves - Completion and analysis of Divinity: Original Sin 1, Divinity: Original Sin 2, and Baldur’s Gate 3.
- Experience creating mods for DOS2 or BG3.
- Completed courses on mathematical statistics and calculus.
- Understanding of progression systems in large-scale RPGs (CRPGs, ARPGs, JRPGs, MMORPGs).
