- The candidate will be responsible for planning and managing the engineering scope, schedule, and cost of large capital projects with significant profile, technical complexity, and risk. Projects may be designed entirely within BC Hydro, entirely by external organizations, or through a combination of both, and may include new or upgraded transmission substations, transmission lines, and associated protection, control, and communication systems.
- The candidate will be responsible for establishing engineering design and review plans, strategies, schedules, and resource requirements for assigned projects, working with functional managers to build project teams, coordinating the development of reports, technical specifications, and drawings, managing engineering consultant contracts as required, and collaborating with internal and external teams to provide technical support during manufacturing, construction, and commissioning while resolving technical issues.
- The candidate will be responsible for performing the Owner's Engineer Lead role on projects where engineering work is completed partially or entirely by third parties, including outside consultants or equipment vendors. The candidate will coordinate and lead internal reviews, assessments, and acceptance of third-party engineering deliverables.
- The candidate will be responsible for maintaining collaborative relationships across the organization and applying knowledge of business requirements and processes to lead engineering activities, provide recommendations on complex project matters, and present findings to senior management and executives when required.
- The candidate will be responsible for coaching project team members to resolve issues and providing mentorship and guidance to employees within the department and across other groups.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; however, other engineering disciplines may be considered when combined with relevant experience on complex large infrastructure projects.
- The candidate must be eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
- The candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, preferably including experience designing transmission stations and transmission line projects.
- The candidate must have engineering experience across the complete project life cycle, from conceptual design through to testing and commissioning, which is considered an asset. Candidates with less experience may be considered at a corresponding position level.
- The candidate must have a minimum of 4 years of experience leading and coordinating multi-discipline design on medium to large projects,
preferably on projects similar to BC Hydro in size, complexity, and stakeholders, while candidates with less experience may be considered at a corresponding position level.
- The candidate must understand the impact of projects on transmission systems and operations, including the interactions and priorities required to successfully deliver multi-discipline projects.
- The candidate must have excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
- The candidate must have a good understanding of project management processes, with strong knowledge of BC Hydro's project delivery processes and design practices considered an asset.
- The candidate with experience leading Owner's reviews of external multi-discipline engineering work will be considered an asset.
- The candidate with site experience on large construction projects, including hydroelectric generation stations, transmission substations, or transmission lines, will be considered an asset.
- The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 Driver's License.

- The candidate must be available for occasional travel across BC.
- The candidate will be required to work in a hybrid role based at BC Hydro's Edmonds campus in Burnaby, BC, with a minimum of three days per week working from the office.
