Sanctuary AI–a multi award-winning LinkedIn Top Startup company- is looking to hire a Test and Validation Engineer for our Teleoperation Team. Reporting to the Teleoperation Lead, the Test and Validation Engineer will gain a comprehensive understanding and significant operational experience with our general purpose robots (GPR) and simulators (SIM).

Have you ever dreamt of feeling fully immersed in teleoperating a robot? Here’s your chance! The best Test and Validation Engineer candidates have experience designing and running test programs for high-complexity, network-connected, technological systems with a human in the loop. This includes systems such as autonomous vehicles, drones, mobile robots, subsea vehicles or high-performance space vehicles or aircraft.

Ultimately, you'll manage execution against our workflow testing process for teleoperation and telemetry components throughout the simulated and robotic system, establish procedures for running those tests, automate as much as possible, and maximize scalable testing acceleration.

Our Success Criteria

Achieve company-wide visibility as you work with leadership to continually push the boundaries of implementing, documenting, and maintaining testing solutions and lifecycles

Expand your experience as you develop a user-level understanding of advanced modern robotics and human-like intelligence systems

Tap into your leadership skills as you document, communicate, and enforce testing policies, test results, methods, regimes, scenarios, and plans with the team

Work with cross-functional engineering teams to develop new tests, operations, processes, and methodologies

Test real-time and mission-critical software for teleoperation, telepresence, and telemetry

Set up, pilot, and troubleshoot robot operations in simulated and real-world environments

Generate, Run, and Document tests to uncover functional gaps in the teleoperation, telepresence, telemetry, and data collection

Keep your knowledge updated in the state of the art teleoperations practices

Your Responsibilities

Testing the full teleoperation stack and individual components with a disciplined, meticulous, and thorough process

Develop processes to enhance testing of newly developed code for teleoperation, telemetry, and telepresence

Ensure that the tests have good coverage and that the edge cases are documented and known

Propose changes to the workings of algorithms or processes if possible

Learn to pilot the GPRs in SIM and Reality, while keeping the integrity of the hardware (motion capture/teleop rig and robot) in mind

Upkeep of the teleop rigs (Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Force Feedback)

Pilot the SIM and GPR for normal data collection and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities.

Observe and note any improvements to: Ergonomics, Process, Control, Algorithms, Interfaces... anything regarding the piloting interface.

Your Experience

Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent work experience

Knowledge of qualified engineering practices for the full product life-cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source management, Agile, testing, and operations

Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and run tests

Excellent mechatronic aptitude, hands-on experience with complex systems

Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering disciplines would allow you to hit the ground running in this role

Skills

Familiarity with C/C++, Bash Scripting, and Python

Experience with VR and AR controls systems

Familiarity with testing processes and data organization

Safe operation of complex mechatronic systems

Maker skill-set (ability and willingness to use different lab equipment and tools to produce components whenever required)

Familiarity with ROS2 and/or DDS

Traits

Taking on a global-scale challenge that could create fundamental change appeals to you

You have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and enjoy working as a part of a multidisciplinary team

You are organized, learn quickly, document everything, attend to detail, and are excited by challenges while looking for correlations

You are open to learning skills outside of your expertise

Systematic and holistic approach to implementing improvements and/or troubleshooting issues

Patience, persistence, and attention to detail when resolving performance issues

Can-do attitude and willing to take on challenges where success is far from guaranteed

Obsession with bringing human-like intelligence to machines
