CLASSIFICATION: REGISTERED SOCIAL SERVICE WORKERDEPARTMENT: OUTPATIENT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICESPOSITION LOCATION: OWEN SOUNDUNION AFFILIATION: OPSEU – HPDSTATUS: FULL-TIME, TEMPORARY (APPROX. END DATE DECEMBER JANUARY 2027)REASON TO POST: DIRECT REPLACEMENTWAGE RATE: $34.37 - $39.50Reporting to the Manager, Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Social Service Worker works as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a range services for clients who have substance use and mental health issues. The Social Service Worker’s primary responsibility is to provide treatment, rehabilitative and support services following Recovery Principles for individuals and groups. The Social Service Worker will work with the clients/families and treatment team to actively help rehabilitate each client to achieve their maximum functional level through planned therapeutic programs. This position is initially targeted to work in the Wellness and Recovery Centre with the understanding that the Social Service Worker is a member of the Mental Health and Addictions Department and as such may be assigned to another program as needed.Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:RequiredCurrent registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers; or ability and willingness to obtain during probation periodMinimum two years’ experience as a Social Service Worker within a multi-disciplinary team serving individuals with substance use and mental health issuesKnowledge of mental health reform, values and principles of recovery, Mental Health Act, PHIPPA,
Health Care Consent Act and Public Hospitals ActDemonstrated knowledge and understanding of Harm Reduction Principles and PracticesDemonstrated knowledge of issues faced by individuals in acute mental health distress and severe mental illnessDemonstrated knowledge of substance use and mental health community services, treatment and support programsDemonstrated knowledge of and competence in the application of treatment modalities to support individuals with substance use and mental health issuesDemonstrated Psycho/Social and mental status assessment skillsDemonstrated knowledge of DSM-VDemonstrated knowledge of psychiatric medication, side effects and coping strategiesAble to effectively communicate with clients, family members, members of the Treatment Team and other stakeholdersPossession of a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, insurance coverage and personal vehicle - travelis requiredExcellent organizational skills and scheduling abilitiesAble to coordinate multiple departmental interests to provide quality client careAble to problem-solve and make effective decisions under high stress and potentially violent emergencysituationsWillingness to learn and integrate current concepts into practiceAble to work all shifts including standby as requiredRecent satisfactory performance and attendance recordsDemonstrate, promote and encourage Brightshores’ values – We Show Up for Each Other, We Are Trusted to Act, We Create Solutions Together, We Strive for Better, We Share AccountabilityAdvocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudesComply with all applicable health and safety policies, procedures and regulations, and actively contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy work environmentPreferred:Experience in Crisis Intervention/emergency psychiatry and working with community agenciesCPR and CPI certifications#J-18808-Ljbffr
