CBC News Podcasts is looking for an experienced Producer with a passion for CBC’s news storytelling. This work supports the CBC News Podcasting strategy, which exists to reach recent audiences for CBC’s journalism in the podcast and digital audio space. This is a 12 month temporary, full-time position, Monday to Friday, primarily daytime hours but with flexibility for working with team members coast-to-coast. It is a hybrid role, requiring you to be in the workplace at least three days a week, at any of CBC locations in Canada.

About CBC News Podcasts Canada’s best journalism, on demand and delivered directly into your earholes. Our mandate is to amplify our news journalism in the podcast space, and that means video and social media are key to our podcasting strategy. We work with CBC teams in several ways; producing original always-on news podcasts like FrontBurner and TwoBlocks from the White House supporting our local This Is podcasts assisting network audio and video teams to increase their podcasting presence developing original news podcast series like SeeYouInCourt and upcoming investigative series. We work in deep collaboration with CBC News Studios, the Podcast Audience Growth Hub, and CBC Podcasts to create audience-focused podcast content and best practices around podcasting.

About the Role

In this role,



you will support our news podcast teams, assigned to new and ongoing projects throughout the year as needed. This means you’ll be working with CBC journalists with varying levels of longform audio experience, helping to transform original, enterprise and investigative content into podcast formats that lean into the power of audio storytelling, and will attract new audiences to our work. You will be responsible for many aspects of the production process; reviewing tape, recording and producing interviews, chasing guests, drafting narrative-driven episode outlines, scripts and series arcs, selecting clips, editing audio, and offering edit notes and suggestions., You will also be responsible for many of the elements needed to help the podcast find new audiences; titles, episode descriptions, promos, trailers and other digital content. Most importantly, you love working with tape, building scenes and characters and love sharing that knowledge and experience with colleagues at different stages of their podcasting journey. You’re responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

- With oversight from a CBC News Podcasts Exec or Sr or Producer, contribute to the development and production of CBC News Podcast projects as needed
- Support CBC News teams in building podcast content from their original, enterprise and investigative journalism
- Write, produce and assist in the development of episode and series outlines, interviews, scripts, edit notes, chasing, producing and recording of interviews for a podcast format
- Gather, record and edit podcast audio from interviews, archival, and news gathered sources.
- Ensure podcasts are created in accordance with CBC News Podcasts’ strategy and in adherence to the JSP
- Create podcast growth assets to support our shows and series

About You

- You are committed to CBC News’ values around local service,



audio strategy, and our Journalistic Standards and Practices
- You have a track record of producing and writing longform audio storytelling and are passionate about making podcasts
- You have a minimum of 5 years experience in news media, or podcast production
- You have experience working with creative contributors, giving feedback and helping others develop skills
- You’re a creative storyteller who loves to write for the ear, and has a knack for knowing what will sell a story
- You’re a critical thinker who can come up with cutting-edge ways to use resources to support a wide variety of needs and possible use cases
- You’re detail-oriented and love to nerd out what small tweaks can make big impacts on content, workflow and audiences
- You forge positive team relationships where you value collaboration, transparency, respect and inclusiveness
- You understand the fundamentals of what makes a podcast different from our other news formats.
