Unposting Date: 2026-10-01 11:59 PM CBC News is seeking an experienced, thoughtful journalist to serve as our Middle East Correspondent, to lead our on-the-ground coverage of a region defined by far-reaching complexity, history, and global impact. In the Middle East conflict and shifting peace agreements continue to affect the lives of millions, while reshaping the global economy and alliances. In this role, you will go beyond the immediate news cycle to bring nuanced, contextualized storytelling to life - illuminating human experiences, geopolitical realities, and the diverse perspectives shaping the region. The successful candidate will be an exceptional journalist, with a broad range of social media, video, audio and text storytelling skills aimed at mobile and streaming audiences. You bring a deep knowledge of the Middle East - its history, its politics, its economics and how this all ties into Canada's shifting role on the global stage.
You thrive in a demanding daily news environment meeting multiple deadlines. You understand how stories work across platforms and on any given day you could be filing to one or more platforms including social and digital, video and audio. You are adept at delivering live analysis and context, often on short notice, just as easily as you're able to deliver social-first video and packaged reports. All of your journalism adheres to the CBC News Journalistic Standards and Practices. In this position, you will work closely with a video producer based in Jerusalem, as well as colleagues from Radio-Canada also working in the bureau. You will be supported by the World News team in Toronto, including the Senior Producer who will assign Middle East coverage. The minimum assignment length for this position is two years and, if agreed to by both parties, may be extended for up to an additional two years. Key Responsibilities:
Generate and execute compelling journalism that explores a variety of voices and perspectives, from daily news to short- and long-form features. Go live on any platform whenever a story requires it. Produce original content while also responding to breaking news and emerging stories in a fast-paced environment. Pitch and cover stories that resonate with our national audience, with an ability to find the significance in world events for a Canadian audience.
Research and analyze complex issues using specialized sources to ensure our audience gets a deep, nuanced understanding of important topics. Quickly identify significant issues and respond strategically to ensure they are covered accurately and effectively. Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts with a wide range of sources. What is required:
You are a journalist with a minimum of 8 years of comparable experience, including significant reporting experience at a network/national level. Your extensive experience demonstrates that you can pivot quickly when a story changes, you remain respectful to colleagues when there are competing deadlines and content demands, and be open to social-centric presenting / hosting. Exceptional storytelling skills, with a proven ability to produce memorable social, written, audio and visual content Exceptional critical thinking skills, with an ability to breakdown complex issues and explain them clearly to audiences Demonstrated ability to produce compelling social video content. Strong on-air presence and skill with live reporting. Extensive knowledge of world news and current affairs issues A collaborative team player with robust communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and willingness to work long and flexible hours, including overtime, evenings and weekends as needed. Excellent interpersonal skills combined with a successful track record of working as part of a small team Strong grasp of CBC News Journalistic Standards and Practices , with an ability to understand how they apply in your daily storytelling. A university degree in journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Application Requirem
