$17.60/hour plus vacation pay in accordance with the ESA

Job Description:

The Geomatics Laboratory Assistant will mentor their peers in GIS techniques, particularly troubleshooting and developing workflows to complete lab assignments. Additionally, if time allows, they will assist with maintenance of the spaces and equipment used for undergraduate Geomatics labs. Jobs will include running office hours where peers can seek assistance, assisting the Instructor of GEOG 2107 (GIS and the Earth from Space) in management and maintenance of equipment like GPS units, and testing lab computers to ensure all software and network drives are functioning as intended. The instructor of GEOG 2017 will work alongside the assistant and train the student on all duties.

Duties Include:

- Reading lab manuals to understand the procedures students will need assistance with.
- Discussing lab procedures and techniques with the instructor where clarification is required.
- Managing the sign-out of equipment that students require for labs.
- Basic maintenance of equipment, such as ensuring that GPS units are charged and ready for use.
- Communicating with GEOG 2107 Instructor on tasks requiring attention.
- Able to change tasks to respond to changing priorities.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Must be a current Nipissing University student
- Must apply and be approved for the NUWORK Program (see link below to apply for NUWORK Program)
- Work Study (NU Work) | Nipissing University

- Comfortable communicating with faculty, staff and students.




- Confident in asking questions if uncertain about any directions or instructions.
- Being a quick learner and taking initiative in recognizing something that needs to be done and doing it before being asked, especially for tidying up spaces post-prep and post-lab.
- Able to adapt to changing priorities and work well under pressure.
- Previous Geomatics lab experience is an asset.
- Solid organization skills are an asset.
