Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview Under the general direction of the Dental Clinic Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for:

Assisting with the provision of comprehensive dental treatment for children with chronic illness, mental and/or physical disability, severe dental pathology, and psychiatric disorders. The department provides care for patients at high-risk including but not limited to Hepatitis B and HIV. Assists with dental treatment and oral surgical procedures to children under general anesthesia and I.V. sedation as required.

Responsible for office/reception duties as required.





Ensures that there is an adequate supply of stock and non-stock supplies; checks incoming inventory and restocks shelves; ensures that equipment is ready and in working order, performing minor maintenance as required.

Experience

Minimum of three yearscurrent experience as a Phase II Dental Assistant required.

Previous experience working with physically and mentally challenged children is preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Complete high school education, Manitoba Standards, required.

Successful completion of a recognized Phase II/Expanded Duty Dental Assistant training program required.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

Annual registration and certification by the Manitoba Dental Association.

Current BCLS certification required.

Qualifications and Skills

Must have good interpersonal and organizational skills.

Must be able to function effectively in a stressful environment with frequent interruptions, including emergency procedures.

Physical Requirements

Position involves walking, reaching, bending, stretching, pushing stretchers/wheelchairs/supply carts, prolonged periods of standing, and assisting with the transfer of disabled patients from wheelchairs to dental chairs.

Exposure to patients with communicable diseases.

May be exposed to mercury vapour and radiation.





May be subject to physical and verbal abuse from patients.

This maternity/parental term may expire sooner than the date indicated subject to a minimum of two (2) weeks’ notice.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
