Job Title: Communications Specialist

Location: Edmonton, AB – Onsite

Employment Type: Contract – 12 Months, with possible 24-month extension

Clearance: Current Enhanced Security Clearance or eligibility to obtain required

About the Role

We are seeking an Intermediate Communications Specialist to support technology, organizational change, and strategic initiatives through clear and effective communications. The successful candidate will work closely with executives, senior leaders, project teams, and subject matter experts to develop executive messaging, employee communications, presentations, visual content, and communication strategies.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop executive communications, leadership messages, organizational announcements, and employee updates.
- Create communication strategies and plans supporting technology initiatives and organizational transformation.
- Develop presentations, executive briefing notes, speaking notes, newsletters, FAQs, infographics, and other communication products.
- Translate complex technical and business information into clear, concise, audience-appropriate messaging.
- Review, edit, proofread, and quality-assure communications developed by leadership and project teams.
- Develop branding, visual identity, templates, and other visual communication materials.
- Support employee engagement and change-management communications.
- Review and improve operational communications related to service outages, incidents, planned maintenance, and service changes.
- Collaborate with executives, managers, SMEs, and project teams to gather information and provide communications advice.
- Prepare materials for executive meetings, leadership forums, town halls, and stakeholder engagement sessions.
- Develop standardized communication templates and guidance.
- Ensure communication products follow organizational standards, visual identity requirements, and plain-language principles.




- Use digital platforms such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to publish or manage organizational communications.

Mandatory Skills & Qualifications

- University degree in Communications, Commerce, or a related field with 4+ years of progressively responsible experience, or a related diploma with 6+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years developing and implementing effective communication plans.
- 10+ years developing professional internal and organizational communications, including executive messages, employee communications, announcements, newsletters, and briefing materials.
- 10+ years developing professional presentations and visual communications for senior leadership, including advanced Microsoft PowerPoint skills.
- 10+ years reviewing and evaluating existing communications and recommending improvements.
- 10+ years of professional business writing, editing, and translating complex business or technical information into audience-appropriate communications.
- 10+ years working directly with executives, senior leaders, managers, and subject matter experts.
- 10+ years supporting communications within technology, IT, digital transformation, or similar technical environments.
- 2+ years supporting organizational transformation, change management, restructuring, or significant organizational change.
- 1+ year developing communications related to technology outages, incidents, maintenance, or service changes.




- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work professionally with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

- 2+ years developing branding, visual identity, templates, infographics, or visual communications using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or comparable tools.
- 2+ year developing communications within government, public sector, courts, justice, or another regulated organization.
- 5+ year using SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, or similar platforms to publish or manage communications.
- Experience supporting executive communications and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience in technology modernization or digital transformation environments.
- Strong presentation design and visual storytelling capabilities.
