QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or certification in Accounting.
- Formal Accounting Designation CPA, or legacy CA, CGA, CMA, in good standing with CPA Manitoba.
- Maintenance Building Certificate is an asset.
Experience:
- Three (3) to five (5) years of financial leadership experience, including supervision of staff.
- Experience and knowledge of non-profit financial practices, including fund accounting, recording, and reporting requirements for government-funded not-for-profit organizations and GREs.
- Experience in healthcare, personal care home, residential property management accounting, commercial lease management/reporting, and facility management, including housekeeping, is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of integrated financial and management information systems and payroll software; prior experience with Microsoft, GP Dynamics, F9 and Logibec is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload, work independently, and maintain positive working relationships with staff, management, peers, external agencies, and stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively supervise, direct and motivate staff.
- Knowledge of City of Winnipeg, Provincial and Federal Environmental Health Services safety and sanitation procedures.
- Subject to a Criminal Record Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check.
POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the senior leader for the respective entities, this role provides leadership and is responsible for the strategic and operational financial planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting for all Fred Douglas Society (FDS) operations and its related non-profit and charitable organizations. Oversees support service departments within Fred Douglas Lodge, including dietary, housekeeping, laundry, recreation, and the adult day program, with direct management of the maintenance department. Acts in consultation with the FDS team to ensure operations are managed and maintained in an productive, safe, and cost-effective manner.
Works within the framework of the Fred Douglas Society philosophy, policies and procedures, standards, and applicable legislation.
Financial Management
- Leads financial, accounting, audits, budget planning and reporting activities for the Health and Housing and Property Management portfolios.
- Works with the team and auditors to prepare budgets, forecasts, year-end reports, audits, and capital/equipment plans for Board approval.
- Provides regular financial reports, variance analysis, and updates to the senior leadership team on fiscal position and emerging financial issues.
- Maintains strong financial controls and oversees accounting processes, compliance reporting, risk management, trust funds, investments, donations, and grants.
Building and Equipment Management
- Oversee physical plant operations of Fred Douglas Lodge (and related campus sites) and Heritage House to ensure safe and comfortable living and working environments for residents, employees, and visitors.
- Ensures workplace safety and health requirements are operational and employees receive necessary education.
- Ensures all City of Winnipeg and Manitoba Department of Labour licenses and permits are current.
- Coordinates physical plant renovations and redevelopments with general contractors.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Supports the leadership team in developing and implementing strategic, operating, capital and budget plans.
- Prepares and presents financial reports for Board committees and other meetings and supports managers in interpreting financial information.
- Coaches the Finance and Support Service Teams and represents the organization with funders, government partners, financial institutions, vendors,
and service providers.
- Leads process improvements and new financial processes and acts as back-up On-Call Duty Manager as part of the Duty Manager rotation.
Human Resources Management
- Performs performance appraisals of direct report staff, anticipates succession requirements, and plans accordingly.
- Provides leadership through information sharing, feedback, advice, coaching, and mentoring.
- Supervises the Finance Team, including the Accounting Clerk, Senior Accountant and Accounting Analyst.
- Supervises the Support Services Team, including the Manager of Resident Experience.
Quality/Risk Management
- Ensures preventative maintenance programs are in place and operating effectively.
- Establishes and implements departmental standards that support safe and effective care for residents, families and staff and meet or exceed Manitoba Health Personal Care Home Standards.
- Establishes and implements ongoing Quality Assurance and auditing programming.
- Creates and updates policies and procedures.
Workplace Safety and Health
- Acts as Co-chair of the Society Workplace Safety and Health Committee and ensures required committee criteria are in place.
- Follows up with corrective action on improvement orders, maintains and updates the Material Safety Data System and Disaster Manual.
- Acts as Logistics Coordinator for Emergency Response and Disaster/ Resumption of Operations.
Material/Supply Management and Miscellaneous
- Oversees receiving, processing, distribution, and storage of goods.
- Oversees supplier evaluations for product and service quality and cost.
- Performs other duties as assigned from time to time.
HOURS OF WORK: 1.0 EFT - 77.5 Biweekly Hours Current Location
