Job Summary: The Senior UX Designer will lead the design and delivery of complex digital products and services, focusing on user experience, accessibility, and design system alignment.
This role requires extensive expertise in user research, interaction design, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to create user-centered, accessible, and high-quality digital experiences for web and mobile platforms within a public sector context.
Responsibilities: Plan and conduct discovery, user research, stakeholder interviews, and usability testing to gather evidence and synthesize findings into prioritized design recommendations.
Create user journeys, task flows, service blueprints, information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity responsive designs.
Design and document accessible digital experiences compliant with AODA and WCAG standards.
Contribute to, extend, and apply design systems including reusable components, patterns, tokens, and governance practices.
Collaborate with researchers, content specialists, accessibility experts, developers, product leads, and stakeholders throughout the design process.
Facilitate workshops, design critiques, playback sessions, and decision-making activities to build consensus and present recommendations.
Prepare implementation-ready design specifications and support developer handoff and design-quality reviews during implementation.
Provide senior design leadership, maintain documentation, identify risks, and advocate for user-centered, accessible design decisions.
Deliver knowledge transfer, coaching, and documentation to enable ongoing maintenance and extension of design work.
Required Skills & Certifications: Minimum seven years of qualified experience in UX, UI, interaction, product,
or service design with senior-level responsibility.
Extensive experience in user research, usability testing, and translating findings into design recommendations.
Proficiency in creating user journeys, information architecture, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity responsive designs.
Advanced proficiency with Figma, including components, variants, libraries, prototyping, file organization, documentation, and developer handoff.
Experience designing accessible digital experiences in accordance with AODA and WCAG standards.
Experience contributing to and applying design systems with reusable components, patterns, tokens, and governance.
Strong written, verbal, facilitation, analytical, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills.
Preferred Skills & Certifications: Post-secondary education or certification in UX design, interaction design, service design, human-computer interaction, information architecture, accessibility, or related disciplines.
Experience delivering digital services in municipal, public-sector, or regulated environments.
Experience with content design, search optimization, analytics, or service performance measurement.
Experience providing coaching, mentorship, or knowledge transfer to design teams and multidisciplinary partners.
Familiarity with agile product delivery and public-sector procurement or governance processes.
Special Considerations: Must comply with accessibility standards including AODA and specified WCAG conformance levels.
Work onsite at least 3 days per week as required.
Engagement involves collaboration with public sector stakeholders and adherence to related governance and procurement processes.
Scheduling: Work schedule includes onsite presence for three days per week; specific shift patterns not specified.
