Reporting to the Supervisor, Home and Community Care, the Home and Community Care I is a member of the Home and Community Care Program team and is in frequent contact with the client and family. The Home and Community Care Worker I provides a key link to observe the client’s condition and any changes in their support network.

Main responsibilities for the Home and Community Care I include:

- Ensuring that all client, family and program information, records and communication are treated with strict confidentiality
- Carrying out the client care and/or service plans by following the pre-determined task list
- Preparing nourishing meals and special diets as required.
- Planning meals with the client and does grocery shopping as required
- Performing light housekeeping duties
- Assisting in activities of daily living, other than personal care, where the client may have difficulties, such as watering plants, light laundry, feeding pets, etc
- Recording data appropriately, accurately, completely and in a timely way to ensure clear and accurate client and employee records

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through an individual who can work independently in a home environment under indirect supervision. Driver’s license, or the requirement to obtain within the first 12 months of employment.



Current CPR and First Aid Certificates are considered assets. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in Inuktitut is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. We encourage you to apply if you have equivalent years of education and/or experience equal to the education and experience requirements listed above.

- Possession of a criminal record may not disqualify candidates from being considered. An assessment of the criminal record will be measured against the scope and duties of the position. This is only a requirement for positions that require a satisfactory criminal record or vulnerable sector check.
