The candidate will be responsible for developing, reviewing, maintaining and analyzing integrated construction schedules using industry-standard software such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
The candidate must establish and maintain project controls processes that are appropriately scaled to each project’s complexity, delivery model, risk profile, contract type and construction environment.
The candidate will be responsible for reviewing contractor and supplier schedules, including bid schedules, baseline schedules, progress updates and revised schedules, to evaluate logic, sequencing, critical path, assumptions and compliance with project and contract requirements.
The candidate must develop and review project controls and schedule requirements for RFP packages, contracts and contractor deliverables.
The candidate must act as a project controls and scheduling subject matter expert in the review of contractor and supplier bid submissions.
The candidate will be responsible for leading progress measurement and performance monitoring activities, including reviewing and analyzing construction progress, quantities, labour hours, productivity, milestone status and contractor performance data.
The candidate must develop and maintain project controls reporting, including dashboards, S-curves, productivity reports, progress summaries, forecast reports, variance analysis, Productivity Factor reporting and key performance indicators.
The candidate will be responsible for applying project controls good practices that include Earned Value Management principles, forecasting, productivity tracking, trend analysis, risk identification, variance analysis and change management support.
The candidate must coordinate schedules, quantities, progress measurement methods, pay items and contract requirements to support project performance reporting, change management and claims support.
The candidate must maintain accurate and traceable project records, including schedules, assumptions, progress data, analysis, decisions and supporting documentation.
The candidate must lead or support what-if scenarios, Time Impact Analysis schedules, recovery schedule options, delay analysis, extension of time reviews and other project controls analysis as required.
The candidate must collaborate with construction, contracts, engineering, procurement, supply chain, project management and field teams to ensure project controls information is accurate, consistent, timely and useful for decision-making.
The candidate will be responsible for continuously improving project controls practices, templates, processes, reporting tools, lessons learned and standards within the Capital Construction team.
The candidate must travel occasionally to construction sites, as required, to support field progress reviews, project coordination and project controls activities.
Job Requirements
The candidate must be a collaborative, analytical and results-driven project controls professional with strong construction knowledge and a solid understanding of how schedule, cost, progress, contracts, field execution and reporting come together on capital projects.
The candidate will be required to lead project controls activities with confidence, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and translate complex project information into clear insights that support successful project delivery.
The candidate must have a university degree or technical diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or a related discipline. Extensive relevant experience and training may be considered.
The candidate must have a minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in project controls, construction scheduling, cost control, progress measurement, project reporting, or construction project management.
The candidate must have practical construction experience, preferably including field or site-based experience on major infrastructure, utility, civil, electrical, transmission, generation, or other capital construction projects.
The candidate must have strong working knowledge of Primavera P6, including schedule development, schedule review, Critical Path Method analysis, baseline management, progress updates, logic review, and schedule quality assessment.
The candidate must have a solid understanding of construction methodology and sequencing, including engineering, procurement, construction, outages, contractor execution planning, and field progress.
The candidate must have strong knowledge of project controls good practices, including schedule management, progress measurement, Earned Value Management principles, forecasting, productivity tracking, performance reporting, variance analysis, trend analysis, risk identification, and change management support.
The candidate must have experience developing, reviewing,
or implementing project controls requirements for RFPs, contracts, contractor deliverables, schedule specifications, progress reporting requirements, and performance measurement requirements.
The candidate must have experience reviewing contractor schedules, supplier schedules, project controls submissions, progress updates, recovery plans, and contractor performance information.
The candidate must have familiarity with contract management, engineering, procurement, supply chain, and the broader project lifecycle.
The candidate must have the ability to interpret construction schedules, contract requirements, quantities, progress data, productivity information, pay items, rules of credit, and field updates to support project controls analysis and reporting.
The candidate must have experience preparing and presenting project controls reports such as S-curves, manpower or resource histograms, productivity reports, forecast reports, variance analysis, dashboard summaries, performance indicators, and project updates.
The candidate must have strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, communication, presentation, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to take ownership of project controls activities, initiate action, make sound recommendations and support practical decision-making in a construction environment.
The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
The candidate must have experience with Power BI and dashboard development, which is considered an asset.
The candidate must have PMP, AACE, or another relevant scheduling or project controls certification, which is considered an asset.
The candidate must have experience working with utility contractors or on large capital construction projects, which is considered an asset.
The candidate will be required to maintain a proactive, continuous improvement mindset and show an interest in strengthening project controls practices, tools, templates, reporting standards and team capability.
The candidate must be able to travel occasionally to construction sites within or outside of the region, as required.
The candidate must maintain a Class 5 driver’s license in good standing as a condition of employment.
