The Team
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is the Province of BC's primary emergency response organization that operates year-round to deliver its mandate for wildfire management. BCWS also delivers expertise and services in response to other natural hazard emergencies.
The BCWS is underpinned by the Four Pillars of Emergency Management - Prevention & Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery. BCWS partners with ministries, agencies, local, provincial, national, and international governments, First Nations, and Indigenous organizations to advance effective management of wildfire and other natural hazard emergencies.
The BCWS operates provincially, delivering services through six Fire Centres, thirty-three Zones and two provincial centres in Kamloops and Victoria.
The BC Wildfire Service Communications and Engagement team leads internal and external communications, collaborates with Fire Centres and provincial programs to support regional communications and engagement activities, and supports the provincial and Incident Management Team information officer program.
The Role
As part of the BC Wildfire Service Communications and Engagement Team, the Community Engagement Analyst position plays a strategic role in providing project management and communications expertise related to strengthening BC Wildfire Service's level of engagement across the Province.
Reporting to the Communications and Engagement Specialist, and working in partnership with the Communications Team Lead, provincial communications assistants and Fire Centre communications staff, the Analyst will develop, promote and influence internal and external stakeholder engagement with BC Wildfire Service programs and services.
Key functions of the Community Engagement Analyst are to coordinate priority BC Wildfire Service Communications and Engagement projects and develop and deliver program tools and resources.
In addition to being an experienced project manager, the Community Engagement Analyst is an engagement and outreach expert, capable of forging dynamic relationships.
As an engaging communicator, the Analyst represents BC Wildfire Service interests and builds strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders including staff, all levels of government, partners, the general public, volunteers, community groups, non-government organizations, and corporate partners.
Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, community development, communications, natural resource management, social sciences,
or related field AND minimum two years of related experience.
An equivalent combination of relevant education, experience and training and minimum three years of related experience may also be considered.
Recent related experience must include three or more of the following: Experience independently managing projects or project components in a dynamic work setting.
Experience with project management tools, methods and principles.
Experience in directing the work of contracted and/or staff resources.
Experience developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships.
Experience working effectively in a multi-disciplinary and cross-organizational team environment.
Preference may be given to candidates with a combination of, or all, the following: Familiarity with the BC Wildfire Service organization.
Experience with internal communications and/or media relations.
Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or organizations.
Experience with procurement and resource and financial management principles.

To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.

About this Position: There is currently one full time position available that can be performed from any BC Wildlife Service office in British Columbia.
An eligibility list may be established for future temporary or permanent positions.
