JOB SUMMARY

The Low Voltage Estimator is responsible for the accurate and timely estimation of project costs related to low voltage systems, including structured cabling, security, access control, audio-visual, and other related systems. The Estimator will provide support to the Management and Operations team; and will be required to conduct occasional field & site assessments.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Advise on tending procedures, examine, and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards and conduct negotiations
• Establish and maintain tending process and set up cost monitoring and reporting system and procedures
• Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of the project
• Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subtractors
• Manage and coordinate telecommunication projects and prepare progress schedules
• Analyze tender documents; construction plans and as-builts, etc.
• Request separate quotations from approved vendors and subcontractors, per the scope of work
• Estimate costs to complete project using approved client rates
• Prepare proposals as per the requirements, provided documents, drawings, etc.
• Track and coordinate quotation timing and deadlines
• Meet with General Manager and Project Manager(s), to discuss and provide explanation of project estimates to gain signatures/approval for profitable business
• Review with the General, and Project Manager(s) the estimate vs. actual in view of improving estimates based on actual results
• Collaborate with all other departments and divisions to optimize efficiency and to ensure projects estimates are feasible and attainable
• Perform site walk-downs/ site visits to provide detailed intelligence on site specific requirements to aide in bidding/ estimating work packages if required




• Attend and contribute to Customer Facing meetings if required
• Sales Support / Estimating
• Other duties are required which are reasonably related to the role and further the best interests of the organization

RELATIONSHIPS
The Low Voltage Estimator reports directly to the General Manager. The incumbent also works directly with:
• Sales Department
• Service Department
• Purchasing and Corporate Services
• Inventory Department
• Management
• Clients
• Third Party Contractors

AUTHORITY
The Low Voltage Estimator holds the authority to do the following:
• Assess situations or circumstances and draw sound conclusions
• Manage multiple priorities and produce results in a high-pressure environment with limited resources
• Develop and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with individuals at various levels
• Work independently and with limited direction

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL WORKPLACE

The Low Voltages Estimator will work approximately 70% in an office environment and 30% travel to customer sites liaising with clients and coordinating the task(s). There is exposure to outdoor weather conditions. The incumbent must wear safety glasses, safety boots, hard hat and reflective clothing and other PPE as required during site visits.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
• 2 years of post secondary in a related field (Communications, Electrical)




• Education or certifications in Construction Management or Estimation an asset
o Construction Estimator Certified (CEC) Designation

Experience and Training
• Minimum of 10 years of direct work experience in the Electrical or Communications Field
• Minimum 5 years of in field hands-on experience
• Strong Experience and fluency working with various types of construction and telecommunications projects drawings, and blueprints
• Fluent English language written and verbal skills
• Strong planning and organization skills
• Excellent negotiation and consulting skills
• Experienced and knowledgeable of Microsoft Office and Adobe programs
• Experience with estimating software such as Accubid and Bluebeam is an asset
• Possess a valid Alberta Class 5 Operator's License with a clean drives abstract as this role requires travel and attending job sites as required
• Ability to meet deadlines and commitments and to adjust/adapt to new ideas and procedures

Physical Demands
The Low Voltages Estimator will spend 50% of the day sitting and 50% standing. The incumbent will also be required to look at a computer screen for long periods of time. There is a possibility of eye and/or joint strain related to operating computer equipment.
