We are seeking a Laboratory/Warehouse Assistant - Workflow Operator to support our pulp storage function and help keep laboratory workflows moving efficiently. This role will work closely with the Batching Workflow team to assist weighers in meeting daily production targets while also providing support across laboratory operations during seasonal and workflow fluctuations.
This is a hands‑on chance for a dependable, organized individual who enjoys working as part of a team in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
About the Position
As a Laboratory/Warehouse Assistant - Workflow Operator, you will help coordinate the movement, tracking, staging, and storage of client sample boxes. Your work will directly support the weighing and batching processes and help ensure that samples are available when needed, accurately tracked, and returned to storage promptly.
Key Responsibilities
- Sample Tracking & Workflow Management
- Use WebView to locate, transport, and update the disposition of client samples by work order or digestion run number
- Retrieve and stage sample boxes on carts for weighers
- Return sample boxes to storage and scan them into the appropriate location after weighing
- Support weighing activities as required
- Maintain accurate sample movement and storage practices
Operational Standards & Safety
- Follow established procedures, work instructions, and production schedules while maintaining analytical quality
- Work safely and comply with all ALS health and safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
- Maintain an organized and effective work area
- Communicate workflow, sample, or equipment concerns, to the appropriate supervisor or manager
- Perform other related duties as assigned
What You'll Bring
Core Skills & Competencies
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and consistently
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment
- Basic computer skills and the ability to use software applications
- Familiarity with WebView or similar laboratory information systems is an asset
- Good organizational skills
- Solid attention to detail and a quality-focused approach
Interpersonal & Skilled Attributes
- Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment
- Basic written and verbal English communication skills
- Dependable, flexible, and willing to support changing operational priorities
Education and Experience
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous laboratory, warehouse, sample‑handling, or production experience is an asset
- Training will be provided to successful candidates
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Manual dexterity to perform detailed and repetitive tasks
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including dust masks and gloves
- Ability to sit and/or stand for a full shift of up to 7.5 hours
- Ability to walk, bend, reach,
and handle sample boxes and laboratory materials throughout the shift
- Work may involve exposure to dust and unpleasant odours
Shift Requirements
ALS operates 24/7. This position requires the flexibility to work day, afternoon, and overnight shifts, including weekends.
Compensation and Benefits
The estimated hourly pay for this position is $20.26 CAD per hour at the time of posting. Shift premium available for afternoon and night shifts. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job‑related skills, relevant experience, education, and training.
