Private Investigator

Position: Private Investigator

Role Summary

We are seeking a professional, discreet, and detail-oriented Private Investigator to conduct lawful investigations on behalf of individuals, businesses, legal professionals, insurance organizations, and other clients.

The Private Investigator will be responsible for gathering and documenting information, conducting surveillance and research, interviewing relevant individuals, and preparing clear investigation reports while maintaining strict confidentiality and complying with applicable Ontario laws and licensing requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct lawful surveillance and field investigations.
- Perform background and due-diligence investigations using legally accessible information and authorized sources.
- Investigate suspected insurance, workplace, corporate, financial, or other forms of fraud.
- Locate individuals and conduct skip-tracing assignments using lawful methods.
- Conduct interviews and obtain witness or subject statements when appropriate.
- Research corporate records, court information, public records, and open-source information.
- Document investigative activities accurately, including dates, times, observations, photographs, and supporting evidence.
- Collect and preserve evidence while maintaining appropriate documentation and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Prepare detailed, objective, and skilled investigation reports.
- Provide regular case updates to management and clients.
- Maintain confidentiality of client, subject, and investigation information.
- Work collaboratively with legal counsel,



insurance professionals, corporate clients, and other authorized stakeholders when required.
- Attend court or other legal proceedings and provide testimony regarding investigative observations or evidence when required.
- Follow all applicable privacy, trespass, surveillance, and other legal requirements.

Qualifications

- Valid Ontario Private Investigator licence where required.
- Previous investigative, security, law-enforcement, insurance, compliance, fraud, or related experience is an asset.
- Strong observation and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong report-writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple investigations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when assignments require it.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation for field assignments where applicable.
- Comfortable using computers, mobile devices, investigative databases, and open-source research tools.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an asset:

Corporate Investigations: Employee misconduct, internal investigations, conflicts of interest, asset verification,



and corporate due diligence.

Fraud & Insurance Investigations: Suspected fraudulent claims, documentation review, surveillance, and evidence gathering.

Legal Investigations: Witness location, interviews, litigation support, evidence documentation, and process-related investigations.

Background & Due Diligence: Identity and employment verification, corporate research, public-record research, and risk assessments.

Surveillance & Field Investigations: Discreet observation, activity documentation, photographic/video evidence where lawful, and comprehensive surveillance reporting.

Professional Standards The successful candidate is expected to conduct every assignment lawfully, ethically, objectively, and discreetly. Investigators must operate within the scope of their licence and assignment and must not engage in unauthorized access, impersonation, unlawful tracking, harassment, trespassing, or other prohibited investigative practices.

Compensation: Competitive hourly, salary, or case-based compensation depending on experience, licensing, and assignment requirements.I can also tailor this into a more senior “Private Investigator / Fraud & Corporate Investigations Specialist” role aimed at banking, insurance, corporate fraud, background checks, and legal investigations.
