Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have a permanent opportunity, for an Accountant to join our Finance Accounting & Control team.

This position is hybrid (3 days per week in person) and will be based out of our Stellarton Corporate Office on King street

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

- Accurately prepare and post entries and account for transactions in the general ledger.
- Prepare and review working papers that support account balances, investigate errors, and facilitate correction.
- Complete period-end close processes, controls, and procedures.
- Review and update the detailed schedules for financial statement note disclosure purpose.
- Prepare and explain balance sheet variances with comparative periods.
- Ensure compliance with CEO/CFO Certification requirements.
- Participate in the internal and external audit requests.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to support and guide them with proper recommendation in accordance with accounting standard IFRS.
- Process improvement mindset, propose innovated ideas.
- Prepare various analytical and ad-hoc reports

What you have to offer:

- University Degree
- 1-2+ years of accounting related experience
- Accounting Designation CPA (or in the process of obtaining) would be an asset
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel)
- Knowledge of accounting standard IFRS
- Strong communication skills (Both oral and written)
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of SAP is preferred
