Your Opportunity at SECURE

Summer positions will run May-August 2027. Co-op and Internship positions may extend beyond the summer term depending on the requirements of the academic program and the business. These terms may be 8, 12, or 16 months in length.

To be eligible for the SECURE Student program, you must:
- Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and available from May to August.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada by way of Canadian Citizenship, Permanent residency, or a valid work permit.
- Complete a Medical and/or Alcohol and Drug test if the role is considered safety-sensitive.

Your Opportunity at SECURE

SECURE is seeking a motivated Student to join our Finance and Accounting team within the Waste Management business segment. This role provides hands-on exposure to core accounting activities, variance analysis, month-end processes, and process improvement initiatives while offering the opportunity to collaborate with teams across the organization. You will gain practical experience applying your academic knowledge in a business setting and contribute to finance-related work that supports informed decision-making and operational performance.

This role is based out of our Brookfield Office in downtown Calgary, Alberta.

The Team

The Finance and Accounting team is a collaborative and dynamic group focused on financial accuracy, continuous improvement, and supporting the success of the Waste Management business segment. Students are encouraged to ask questions, develop their skills, and contribute to meaningful projects in a supportive, fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

This role is based out of SECURE’s Brookfield office in downtown Calgary. You will work in a professional, team-oriented office environment with opportunities to collaborate with Finance and Accounting colleagues and business partners across the organization.

A Day in The Life

- Support daily accounting activities, including recording bank transactions, prepaid expenses, and accruals.
- Assist with balance sheet account reconciliations and other month-end close activities.




- Review monthly profit and loss results and conduct variance analysis against forecasts.
- Support the timely entry and reconciliation of customer cheques and EFT payments.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation for reconciliations.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and recommend practical solutions.
- Collaborate with other business areas to build an understanding of operations and support finance-related initiatives.
- Complete ad hoc analysis, administrative tasks, and project work as required.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; students in their second or third year are preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- A collaborative, adaptable, and team-oriented approach.
- A proactive mindset with an interest in problem-solving and process improvement.
- Professionalism and a positive attitude in all interactions.
