Assistant Professor, Teaching: Geography: Two-Year Limited Term appointment

Located in the thriving city of Calgary, on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, the Department of Geography in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary invites applications for a Limited Term Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching), Geography. The appointment shall be effective January 1, 2027 or a mutually agreed upon date and is for a two-year term.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Department's teaching and service responsibilities while fostering an inclusive, equitable, and collegial academic setting. The primary teaching focus will be within the undergraduate (BA, BSc) programs in Urban Studies and Geography. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in Urban Studies or Urban Geography, complemented by a secondary area of strength that enhances the Department's Geography curriculum.

The typical teaching load is seven courses per year. In addition, the successful candidate will actively participate in extracurricular initiatives and provide mentorship within both the Department and the broader community, supporting the continued vitality and growth of Urban Studies and Geography programs. Our programs combine rigorous disciplinary training with the development of next-generation skills, including field-based and community-engaged education, as well as advanced quantitative, qualitative, and spatial analytical methods. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in geography, urban studies or a closely related field by the appointment date. Candidates must demonstrate that they will have the degree in hand within 2 months of the appointment start date. The successful candidate [QH1] will demonstrate the ability to teach effectively across diverse contexts, including online, classroom, international, and field-based settings, as well as through engagement with community and stakeholder partners.





Approaches that incorporate artificial intelligence will be considered an asset. In addition, the ideal candidate should demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence by presenting an outstanding record of teaching effectiveness, evidence of pedagogical innovation, experience with developing curricula, and advising students.
