About The Role
We are seeking an exceptional Director of Data Engineering to join McKesson Technology US Pharmaceutical Distribution (USPD) Decision Intelligence organization. This leadership role is pivotal in driving the design, development, and optimization of USPD data products that support critical business functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the technical vision, managing high-performing teams, and aligning data strategies with overarching business objectives.
You will oversee the creation and maintenance of large-scale data systems built on a modern data stack, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and aligned with industry best practices. Collaboration with stakeholders across various departments will be essential to ensure data capabilities meet business needs and compliance standards. This role demands a combination of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and proven leadership skills to deliver impactful data solutions that empower decision-making across the organization.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 12 years of skilled experience in related IT fields, with at least 4 years in leadership, planning, and strategic communication roles. A master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field is required.
Certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Databricks Professional Data Engineer and ML Practitioner are highly preferred.
Candidates should demonstrate deep expertise in Microsoft Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Data Lake Storage, Event Hubs, and Cosmos DB. Extensive experience with Databricks platform, advanced analytics workflows, and modern data architectures like Lakehouse using Medallion patterns is essential.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, SQL, and .NET, along with a solid understanding of AI-driven data observability and RAG-ready architectures, is necessary. The candidate should have a proven track record in architecting AI-First Data Platforms, leveraging Generative AI to automate workflows, and implementing scalable, secure, and compliant data solutions in regulated industries such as healthcare or financial services.
Responsibilities
- Partner with executives, business leaders, and technology stakeholders to define and execute the data architecture vision and strategic roadmap aligned with organizational goals.
- Drive innovation by exploring emerging technologies, improving data engineering practices, and enhancing platform capabilities to maintain competitive advantage.
- Establish and enforce data engineering standards, best practices, and governance frameworks across the organization to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, AI-ready data products leveraging the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, ensuring efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage.
- Lead advanced implementation of Databricks for large-scale data processing, machine learning workflows, and real-time analytics.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of Data Engineering Directors and technical specialists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Data Science, Analytics, IT, and Business Intelligence teams to deliver integrated data solutions that support business objectives.
- Develop talent development programs, technical career paths, and initiatives to promote engineering excellence within the team.
- Ensure operational excellence by leading the delivery of data engineering products, optimizing performance, uptime, and cost efficiency.
- Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems for mission-critical data platforms.
- Partner with the Enterprise Data Platform team to automate deployment processes, incorporate AI accelerators, and adopt DevOps best practices.
- Manage technology budgets, vendor relationships, and strategic partnerships to optimize costs and maximize value.
- Leverage AI to accelerate data engineering lifecycle processes, including code generation, pipeline robustness, and data quality automation.
- Ensure data platform security, compliance, and performance optimization across all environments, adhering to industry regulations and standards.
