Position Summary

Director of Care, Seniors Health Centre Come join the team at NYG at this exciting time! Our new Long-term care development is under construction with move in expected in 2030. Start at Seniors’ Health Centre and help lead the transition to one of Canada’s largest and most modern long-term care homes.

Here for Seniors, Here for Life. In this position, you will be accountable to the Administrator for the overall management of the nursing department and resident care services. Through effective management of all resources in the nursing envelope and the development of a strong nursing team, you will ensure the delivery of optimal care and service, based on legislative requirements and Sienna Senior Living standards.

The position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. You will also take on the shared responsibility for ensuring that health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will





- Provide overall leadership in coordinating all on-site operations ensuring efficient utilization of the human, physical and financial resources. This is implemented in keeping with North York General Hospital’s and the Long Term Care Program’s mission statements, objectives, policies and procedures.
- Assume responsibility for the selection, orientation, evaluation and motivation of all nursing and in accordance with the Long Term Care Program’s policies, procedures, and Regulatory Bodies.
- Provide direction and support in developing, implementing and evaluating systems, policies, procedures and standards for the delivery of resident care ensuring compliance with
- Participate in developing and maintaining the department’s philosophy and strategic direction.
- Participate in committees related to best practices and the model of care in the development of the recent Seniors Long Term Care.
- Participate in committees as a coach and facilitator and enhance collaborative and positive working relationships with all staff.
- Ensure nursing staff are scheduled according to resident needs and Ministry of Health Requirements.
- Develop and re-evaluate the nursing program within the approved budget in consultation with the Administrator, Long Term Care Program
- Utilize quality improvement techniques and on-the-job staff training strategies in promoting developing and reinforcing standards.
- Provide regular Quality updates to the Board Quality Committee.
- Ensures compliance with policies to promote safe practices and to protect the health and safety of employees.
- Advocate for quality care and residents needs within the care team and with others including family members.
- Assume administrative responsibilities in the absence of the Administrator, Long Term Care Program.
- Maintain adequate supplies to meet resident needs.
- Facilitate positive working relationships with other departments,



North York General Hospital, and external bodies to coordinate resident care.

Qualifications

- Must possess a Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Bachelor of Nursing Science or equivalent post diploma education preferred.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in front line management in Long Term Care Facilities.

- Demonstrate experience in working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate excellent leadership and communications skills.
- Possess sound clinical skills and knowledge of Gerontological nursing practices.
- Possess excellent proficiency with Microsoft products, email, internet use and computerized documentation.
- Sound familiarity with the funding process and the funding indicators.
- Extensive knowledge of MOHLTC regulations.
- Successful candidates must either have a current Vulnerable Sector Check within six (6) months or obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to their start date
