About CREM Co LabsCREM Co Labs is a contract testing and research laboratory supporting food, natural health product, cosmetic and other industry clients. Our work brings together microbiology, analytical chemistry and quality-focused laboratory practices to help clients evaluate product safety and quality.

The opportunityWe are seeking a microbiology graduate with practical familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 to perform food microbiology testing and contribute to day-to-day laboratory operations, technical oversight and quality-system activities. This hands-on role combines bench testing with workload coordination, staff guidance and the delivery of reliable, timely and traceable results.

You will report to the laboratory supervisor and carry out technical and quality responsibilities within documented competencies and assigned authority.

Testing and laboratory operations· Coordinate daily food-testing activities, prioritize samples, organize staff workloads and monitor progress against agreed turnaround times.

· Receive, prepare and test food, ingredient, water and environmental samples using approved methods; maintain sample traceability, appropriate storage and agreed turnaround times.

· Perform microbial enumeration and pathogen testing, including aerobic counts, yeasts and moulds, coliforms, E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria, within training and method authorizations.

· Prepare media and reagents; complete media quality control, equipment checks and laboratory monitoring; maintain contamination control and safe working practices.

· Record observations, calculate results and assess quality-control outcomes; review technical records and prepare reports within assigned responsibilities and authorizations.





· Identify atypical results and nonconforming work; investigate causes, implement corrective actions and evaluate their effectiveness within assigned responsibilities.

· Support method verification, proficiency testing, document control, internal audits, management reviews and accreditation assessments; maintain complete technical records.

· Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training; support competency assessments and maintain staff training and authorization records.

FOOD MICROBIOLOGIST | TECHNICAL & QUALITY SUPPORT

Technical and quality oversight· Monitor quality-control performance, equipment status and laboratory readiness; address routine issues and escalate significant concerns.

· Review and authorize reports, and make decisions on nonconforming work, only within documented authority; escalate matters outside that authority.

· Communicate testing status, quality-system performance, resource needs and improvement opportunities to laboratory management.

Required qualifications· A bachelor's degree in Microbiology or a postgraduate degree in Microbiology.

· Practical familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025, including controlled procedures, technical records, quality control, nonconforming work, corrective actions and personnel competence.

· Hands-on food microbiology laboratory experience, including aseptic technique, sample preparation,



serial dilutions, culture-based testing and result interpretation.

· Sound technical judgement, careful documentation and the ability to organize testing workloads, troubleshoot routine problems and recognize when escalation is needed.

· Transparent communication, teamwork and the ability to guide laboratory staff and coordinate testing activities while remaining active in bench testing.

Additional assetsExperience in an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited food-testing laboratory; familiarity with Health Canada, AOAC or ISO food microbiology methods; experience with audits, corrective actions, proficiency testing, method verification or staff training. Previous formal supervisory experience is an asset, not a prerequisite.
