Position Title: IT Systems Administrator The Role
Insilico Medicine is a global AI-driven drug discovery company. We are hiring a full-time IT Systems Administrator to provide on-site IT support for our North American offices and to contribute hands-on to our global cloud infrastructure.
The scope is deliberately hybrid: approximately two-thirds end-user and endpoint administration, one-third cloud infrastructure operations. You are the person colleagues turn to when a laptop fails — and equally the person who can launch an EC2 instance, correct a VPC route, or tighten an IAM policy.
Key Responsibilities
Endpoint & Workplace IT
- Identity & collaboration platforms. Administer Microsoft 365 / Entra ID and Google Workspace as tenant administrator — user lifecycle, licensing, mailboxes, shared drives, groups, MFA and conditional access.
- Endpoint management. Deploy and operate Microsoft Intune across Windows and macOS: enrollment, compliance and configuration policies, application delivery, patching and encryption.
- User support. Deliver responsive Tier 1–2 support in person and through the ticketing system for Boston and Montreal, with remote coverage for global colleagues.
- Hardware lifecycle. Own laptop and peripheral procurement through approved vendors, imaging and deployment, asset inventory, warranty and secure disposal.
- Onboarding & offboarding. Execute a documented, auditable process covering accounts, hardware, access and data handover.
- Business application support. Manage licensing, access requests, provisioning, and troubleshooting for business-critical applications, including Zoom, Slack, Atlassian, and other software.
- Office infrastructure. Maintain conferencing,
Wi-Fi and local network equipment across the North American offices.
Cloud Infrastructure Operations (AWS-primary)
- Compute. Provision and operate cloud compute — EC2 instance sizing, AMIs, EBS volumes, snapshots and scheduling, with OS-level troubleshooting on Linux and Windows.
- Networking. Manage VPC subnets, route tables, gateways and security groups, along with VPN connectivity between offices and cloud environments.
- Access governance. Administer IAM across multiple accounts: roles, policies, federation, MFA enforcement, key rotation and least-privilege reviews.
- Core services. Support S3, Route 53, CloudWatch and CloudTrail, and their Azure equivalents where applicable.
- Cost & governance. Drive tagging discipline, idle-resource cleanup and right-sizing recommendations across cloud accounts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in corporate IT support or systems administration, with direct end-user responsibility.
- Administrator-level experience with Microsoft 365 / Entra ID and Google Workspace.
- Hands-on Microsoft Intune experience, or a comparable MDM platform such as Jamf or Workspace ONE.
- Strong Windows 11 and macOS troubleshooting, with solid grounding in DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP and VPN.
- Demonstrated hands-on AWS administration across EC2, VPC, IAM and S3.
- Experience with hardware procurement,
vendor management and a ticketing system such as Jira Service Management.
- A service-oriented approach with non-technical scientists and executives, and a proven ability to respond quickly and resolve end-user issues through to closure under time pressure.
- Professional written and spoken English. This role coordinates daily with IT colleagues in other regions and all technical documentation and operational procedures are produced and maintained in English.
- Based in Cambridge or Montreal, and comfortable collaborating across U.S., Middle Eastern, and Asian time zones.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Azure administration — subscriptions, virtual machines, virtual networks, RBAC and cost management. We operate across both AWS and Azure, so this is a meaningful advantage.
- Scripting in PowerShell, Bash or Python to automate routine administration.
- Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical or other regulated environments.
