Next Edge Capital
Toronto
Location: Toronto, Ontario (hybrid — minimum 3 days per week in office;).
Reports to: President, COO, Group CFO & various supervisors depending on the nature of the work
Employment type: Full-time, permanent.
Level: Entry level, although preference would given to those with some direct experience (structured supervision and mentorship provided).
About the role
We are a Toronto-based investment management group managing a range of private credit, resource, flow-through, equity, fixed income, and specialty strategies across multiple fund vehicles. The finance team supports the full reporting and investor-facing lifecycle for these funds, and we are hiring a Investment Analyst to own the recurring analytical and reporting workflows that keep our fund profiles, marketing materials, and performance data accurate and on schedule.
This is a hands-on, detail-intensive role well suited to a recent MBA or Master of Finance graduate looking to build broad exposure across fund reporting, portfolio analytics, and investor relations within a lean, high-trust team. You will not be expected to make senior investment or structuring decisions; rather, you will execute well-defined recurring processes to a high standard, flag anomalies, and grow your judgment under close supervision. Reliability on daily, monthly and quarterly deadlines, comfort with large formula-driven Excel workbooks, and a genuine eye for detail.
Key responsibilities
Fund reporting & marketing materials
- Produce monthly fund profiles, fact sheets, and commentary across the fund range, updating established Excel workbooks and presentation templates.
- Maintain large, formula-driven marketing and performance workbooks: enter month-end NAVs and returns from administrator statements, extend tables, and verify that downstream auto-calculations (cumulative returns, rolling 12-month, growth-of-$100k, annualized since inception) flow through correctly.
•Prepare quarterly portfolio breakdowns and loan-tape summaries (allocation by Loan type, lien priority, geography).
•Draft and refresh one-off marketing presentations and decks for roadshows, and investor meetings.
•Work with sales and marketing on updates, analytics, client driven questions, and proactive communication.
•Contribute to annual and semi-annual fund commentaries.
Bloomberg & market data
•Pull and refresh market and benchmark data from the Bloomberg Terminal using BDP, BDH, BQL, and functions — index total-return series, sector indices, market caps, GICS classifications, yield curves, and FX forward points.
•Build the monthly FX forward-point analysis (e.g., EUR/USD, USD/CHF, USD/CAD at the 1-month tenor) at month-end, keeping pair directions consistent each period.
•Convert live Bloomberg output to static values where required so that workbooks remain usable by colleagues without Terminal access, and keep source/identifier references current.
Performance & portfolio analytics
•Run the monthly portfolio attribution process for the premium yield fund: build end-of-month snapshots, identify top contributors and detractors, and analyze sector and market-cap positioning versus benchmark.
•Maintain the covered-call / options analysis workbook — reconciling broker fills, matching buy-to-close trades against open positions, and calculating realized option P&L; — under supervision.
•Perform warrant valuations (e.g., Black-Scholes) for relevant fund holdings.
•Support performance and metric comparisons of our funds against peers and indices for sales and IR purposes.
Investor relations, sales & operations support
•Complete due diligence questionnaires (DDQs) and respond to investor and consultant information requests, drawing on standard firm materials.
•Provide ad hoc analytical and data support to the sales team and offshore marketing efforts.
•Aid in CRM (Salesforce) utilization.
•Support daily cash-balance monitoring and, under supervision, trade execution
•Assist in preparing client-facing summaries of tax matters for flow-through investors, translating technical input from tax staff into plain-language materials (technical work and sign-off remain with tax and senior finance staff).
Qualifications & experience
•Education: MBA, Master of Finance, or equivalent graduate qualification; a strong undergraduate background in finance,
accounting, economics, or a quantitative discipline.
•Experience: 0–3 years of relevant experience. New graduates with robust internships or co-op placements are encouraged to apply; this is a development role.
•Excel: Advanced proficiency is essential — comfort with lookups (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP), structured tables, SUMIFS/COUNTIFS, and tracing/auditing multi-sheet formula-driven workbooks without breaking them.
•Bloomberg: Familiarity with the Bloomberg Terminal (BDP/BDH/BQL/FRD) is strongly preferred; candidates without it should demonstrate the aptitude and willingness to become proficient quickly.
•Numeracy & accuracy: Demonstrable attention to detail and a habit of self-checking work; able to reconcile figures across documents and spot inconsistencies.
•Communication: Clear written English for fund commentary and marketing copy; able to present data in a clean, professional, audience-appropriate way.
•Judgment & discretion: Sound judgment about when to escalate, and the discretion to handle confidential fund, investor, and performance information appropriately.•
Work style: Dependable on recurring deadlines, organized, and comfortable taking direction and asking questions within a small team.
Assets (not required)
•CFA candidacy or progress toward CPA designation.
•Exposure to private credit, alternative investments, fund company, or fund administration.
•Experience with PowerPoint for investor materials and with CRM systems.
•Comfort with AI-assisted workflows; we actively use AI tools across finance and reporting and value candidates who can learn to apply them responsibly.
•Additional language skills relevant to our international investor base.
Compensation
Base Salary plus Bonus. Salary range is based on direct relevant experience.
Why this role
You will gain unusually broad, end-to-end exposure to how a fund company and alternative investment platform is reported, marketed, and operated — spanning fund accounting touchpoints, performance analytics, market data, and investor relations — with direct mentorship from senior finance leadership as well as working directly with the principals and senior staff. It is an excellent foundation for a career in investment management, fund finance, or investor relations.
