Your Opportunity at SECURE

The Lab Technologist (Intern or Co-Op) will support SECURE’s research and development activities through hands-on laboratory testing, product evaluation, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), data analysis, and technical documentation. Working alongside experienced scientists, the student will contribute to the development and evaluation of drilling fluid products and technologies by completing laboratory testing and supporting day-to-day research activities. By providing consistent laboratory support, the student will help increase the team’s capacity to investigate new technologies, evaluate product performance, and advance the development of new chemical products.

This opportunity provides practical experience in an applied industrial laboratory environment while developing technical skills in chemical testing, laboratory instrumentation, experimental methods, data analysis,

and scientific reporting.

This role is based at our Laboratory in Calgary, Alberta.

The Team

The team is a technical and collaborative group focused on developing, testing, and improving chemical products and technologies that support SECURE’s customers and operations. The student will work closely with scientists and other technical professionals and receive guidance and mentorship as they develop their laboratory and research capabilities. The role provides exposure to both research-focused activities and practical product testing, enabling the intern to understand how laboratory results inform product development and customer solutions.

The team values curiosity, attention to detail, safe work practices, accurate documentation, and a willingness to learn. As the intern gains experience, they will have opportunities to work more independently on assigned testing and laboratory activities.

The student will perform a combination of laboratory testing, sample preparation and management, equipment maintenance, data analysis, documentation, and general laboratory activities. Work will require following established standard operating procedures (SOPs), safe work practices, and appropriate chemical handling and disposal requirements.

The role may involve standing for extended periods, handling laboratory samples and equipment, and completing repetitive testing activities as part of ongoing research and QA/QC programs.

A Day in The Life

- Support research and development activities related to new and existing drilling fluid products and technologies.
- Perform laboratory testing to evaluate product performance and support research initiatives.
- Assist with the development, evaluation, and refinement of laboratory testing procedures and analytical methods.

- Follow established laboratory procedures, safe work practices, chemical handling requirements, and SECURE’s health and safety standards.
- Accurately record project hours and other required project information.
- Support additional laboratory, QA/QC, and research projects as assigned.
- As technical knowledge and experience develop, take on increasing responsibility for assigned laboratory testing and research activities under the guidance of experienced team members.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications
