Purpose of the Position:

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the maintenance activities that ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the machinery and equipment for Bioriginal (102 Melville). The role involves overseeing both preventative maintenance programs and reactive maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with safety regulations. This is a hands-on working manager role. This role is expected to be on the floor daily, tools in hand troubleshooting, repairing, and working alongside the technicians

Responsibilities & Expectations:

Maintenance Planning & Scheduling

- Develop and implement maintenance schedules for machinery, equipment, and facilities.
- Plan and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance to reduce equipment failures and improve operational efficiency.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and installation work on production equipment alongside the maintenance team.
- Respond directly to breakdowns during production
- Lead by example on the floor, using personal technical skill to resolve issues and coach technicians in real time.

Team Management

- Lead, supervise, and motivate a team of maintenance technicians and staff.
- Ensure the proper training and development of the maintenance team.
- Manage day-to-day tasks, assigning priorities based on operational needs.

Equipment & Facility Management





- Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of all equipment and machinery.
- Monitor facility systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and security.
- Coordinate with external contractors and vendors when necessary for specialized repairs or services.

Budgeting & Cost Control

- Develop and manage the maintenance department's budget.
- Control expenditures by managing inventory, spare parts, and negotiating with suppliers for cost-effective solutions.
- Evaluate costs related to maintenance activities and suggest cost-saving improvements.

Safety & Compliance

- Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with the safety department to ensure a safe working environment.

Performance Monitoring

- Track and analyze maintenance performance metrics, such as equipment downtime, repair times, and operational efficiency.
- Implement continuous improvement programs to optimize the reliability and lifespan of equipment and systems.

Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, work orders, equipment downtime, and repairs.
- Prepare reports on maintenance activities, expenditures, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for upper management.

Desired Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, industrial engineering (or related field) or related journeyperson ticket preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in maintenance management in a manufacturing, industrial, or facility management environment.
- Proven experience managing teams of maintenance technicians and staff.
- Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other facility systems.
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Current, demonstrable hands-on mechanical and/or electrical skill is an asset.
