Company Description The CANDORA Society of Edmonton is a community-based organization that has supported residents for over 35 years. The society works to reduce the isolation associated with poverty and to enhance quality of life through targeted programs, resources, and events. Its programming spans children and family services such as preschool, summer camps, and parent groups, community initiatives including newcomer support and shared meals, and adult learning opportunities like English language learning and financial empowerment.

Role Description The Music Facilitator is a volunteer, on-site role based in Edmonton, AB, supporting CANDORA’s community programming through inclusive music activities. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and leading music sessions for children, youth, and/or adults, using songs, rhythm, and simple instruments to encourage participation and connection. The role involves adapting activities for diverse ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds, creating a welcoming environment where participants feel safe, respected, and engaged.
The Music
Facilitator collaborates with staff and other volunteers to align sessions with program goals, sets up and tidies the space and materials, and provides feedback on participant needs and program improvements. This role may also assist with special events, performances, or workshops that use music to build community and support learning.
Qualifications
- Music-related skills such as basic vocal or instrumental ability, rhythm, and song leadership appropriate for group settings.
- Experience or comfort in facilitating group activities, especially with children, families, newcomers, or adult learners.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to create an inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive environment.
- Organizational skills to plan sessions, manage time, and coordinate with staff and volunteers.
- Reliability and professionalism, including the ability to follow program guidelines, respect confidentiality, and maintain transparent boundaries.
- Prior experience in community work, education, or recreation is an asset but not required; willingness to learn and receive feedback is essential.
- Ability to be on-site in Edmonton, AB during scheduled program times; a background check may be requested depending on program needs.
