We are a busy, well-established specialist medical office in Peterborough looking for a motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to join our collaborative team. You will play an important role in supporting the physician and patients through both clinical testing and daily office operations.

Primary Responsibility: As a key member and integral part of the eye care team, the Ophthalmic Assistant will deliver technical support to the physician and patients by providing and assisting ophthalmologists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. They will ensure the medical environment is welcoming and provide care with compassion and integrity. Collaborating with the physician and other staff to ensure efficient clinical care and use of resources by maintaining office organization and patient flow while adhering to strict confidentiality policies.

Tasks and Duties:

- Scribing in the room with both patient and physician present.
- Instills eye drops and performs field of vision testing.
- Checks muscle balance and gives orthoptic exercises.
- Irrigates eyes that have been burned with chemicals and performs Schirmer's test to tear deficiency.
- Keeps an inventory of ophthalmic drugs, sutures, supplies and assists in office surgical procedures.
- Scheduling surgery E.P.T. and hospital, performs A-Scan, ultrasonography, and keratometry.
- Responsible for the sterilizing of instruments.
- Use of IOL Master
- Do K’s and axial lengths.




- OCT testing for Glaucoma, Narrow Angles, Retina, Keratoconus and Pachymetry
- All Visual field testing (E.G., 30-2, 24-2 driving tests)
- B-Scans (ultrasound behind the eyes)
- P A M glasses (tests visual acuity for pre cataract patients)
- Topography for Toric Lens for Cataract surgery
- Ability to fill in where needed performing Pre-ops and Lasers for pressure checks when needed.
- Assisting patients to and from testing area
- Assisting patients during testing –positioning for accurate imaging
- Any additional technician related duties requested by the Physician.
- Contribute to team effort by sharing in Suite responsibilities such as:
- Preparing laundry or autoclave to go out
- Ordering internally for office and medical supplies

- Help patients in distress by responding to emergencies.
- Scanning patient records for document retention.
- Any other duties needed to ensure consistent operation of the Clinic.

Average Weekly Hours: 37.5

Salary Range: $46900-$53400 per year
