FortisAlberta is seeking a strategic and collaborative Regulatory Counsel to join our Regulatory Affairs & General Counsel team on an 18‑month term.

In this role, you will help shape and support the regulatory strategies that enable FortisAlberta to deliver safe, reliable electricity service to Albertans. Working at the intersection of law, regulation, and business, you will provide legal advice on complex regulatory matters, represent the company before the Alberta Utilities Commission, and partner with subject matter experts to influence outcomes on issues that have a direct impact on our customers, operations, and future growth!

:

- Provide legal advice and strategic guidance on matters related to FortisAlberta’s regulated operations.
- Interpret and advise on utility legislation, regulatory policy, rules, and regulatory decisions that impact the business.
- Support the development of regulatory applications and manage regulatory proceedings, including reviewing and drafting evidence, information request responses, and legal argument.
- Partner with internal subject matter experts to evaluate regulatory and commercial issues and develop practical solutions.
- Manage external counsel and support appeals and other regulatory proceedings as required.
- Conduct legal research and provide concise, actionable recommendations on complex regulatory issues.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across the organization.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of regulatory strategies that support FortisAlberta’s business objectives.




- Stay current on developments in regulatory and administrative law and share relevant insights with the business.
- Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- Law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and membership, or eligibility for membership, with the Law Society of Alberta.
- Four to six years of legal experience, preferably in regulatory law, administrative law, commercial litigation, or a related area.
- Strong analytical, research, and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to provide practical solutions to complex legal and regulatory issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present and explain complex legal matters to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships, influence outcomes, and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
- Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in a regulated industry, particularly the utility or energy sector, is considered an asset.
- Experience appearing before regulatory tribunals or supporting regulatory proceedings is considered an asset.

Important:

- Temporary, 18-month term position, with potential to extend.
- Monday – Friday schedule.
- Hybrid role, with opportunity to work 2 days per week from home.
- Based out of our Calgary office location.
- This role will be moving to our Airdrie office location in 2027.
- Some light travel would be required for the role (~5%).
