Why Calcs
Engineering and construction shape the world around us, yet many engineers still rely on outdated tools and time-consuming workflows. This creates inefficiency, risk and frustration. We exist to fix that.
Calcs is relied on by thousands of engineers, and we're building the next generation of engineering design tools: faster, safer, more collaborative, and increasingly powered by AI.
This work is impactful and challenging. Standards differ by region, compliance matters, and correctness is non-negotiable. But our team is exceptional, and you'll work with people you trust, admire and enjoy.
We value ownership, autonomy and outcomes over process. We treat each other like adults. Everyone contributes, whether it's talking a customer through a compliance deadline or taking out the bins.
The Role
Our most complex relationships are growing: manufacturers commissioning bespoke calculators, standards bodies contributing to our knowledge graph, and platform partners embedding our design engine. These accounts carry significant technical, commercial and reputational weight, and they need focused senior ownership.
We need a resourceful, commercially minded Senior Account Manager to take end-to-end ownership of a named portfolio of these strategic relationships. You'll set the account strategy, build senior stakeholder relationships, coordinate delivery across Calcs, anticipate client needs and be accountable for retention, expansion and measurable customer value.
A first draft of the account-management operating rhythm exists, but it is an input rather than a finished system. You'll be expected to bring a clear point of view, propose the rhythm you believe the team should run, and recommend the cadences, artefacts, health signals and escalation paths needed to make it work. Once agreed with the team, you'll put it into practice and refine it through real account work.
You'll also act as connective tissue between customers and Calcs, translating feedback and technical escalations into clear decisions and coordinated action.
This is a senior individual-contributor role with no direct reports. Head of Engineering leads the account-management function; you'll bring the judgement and autonomy to run high-stakes accounts without waiting for direction on every decision.
This is not a purely commercial role, and it's not a purely technical one. It's ownership of the whole account lifecycle for a concentrated set of strategic relationships, with your name on the outcome.
What You'll Actually Work On
You'll own the commercial success of a named portfolio of strategic accounts. You will:
- Propose and establish the account-management operating rhythm including cadences, account artefacts, health signals and escalation paths—then keep CRM data and forecasts accurate and document practices the wider team can reuse.
- Own retention and expansion outcomes by setting an account strategy, success plan, stakeholder map and growth playbook for each relationship.
- Act as a product expert and strategic advisor, understanding each client's engineering workflows, demonstrating relevant Calcs capabilities and connecting the product to measurable business value.
- Run the account cadence through stakeholder check-ins, training, value reviews and QBRs that move clients from initial rollout to broader adoption.
- Lead commercial moments across renewals, expansion opportunities and bespoke agreements, partnering with Sales and Legal and supporting RFI and RFP responses where needed.
- Orchestrate delivery across Calcs by coordinating Product, Engineering, Marketing, Legal and Support, while maintaining the integration and brand standards expected by our partners.
- Spot opportunity and risk early by tracking client needs, competitor activity, standards changes and whitespace within your accounts.
- Turn customer insight into action by translating feedback and technical escalations into clear input for Product and Engineering.
What We're Looking For
- B2B SaaS and services background: you've built your career in software-as-a-service and the services work that surrounds it—onboarding, implementation and adoption—so you understand both how the product creates value and how that value gets delivered to a client.
- Senior strategic-account experience: you've personally owned a meaningful ARR portfolio of complex, high-value accounts with multiple stakeholder groups and material commercial or delivery risk.
- Proven commercial performance: you have a track record of meeting or exceeding renewal, expansion or net-revenue-retention targets—not just maintaining strong relationships.
- Autonomous operator: you can set an account strategy, make sound calls with incomplete information, and coordinate the right people without relying on formal authority.
- Operating-system builder: you can assess an early draft, form a clear point of view and propose a practical account-management rhythm that others can understand, approve and adopt.
- Comfortable with technical, standards-driven products: you don't need to be an engineer, but you're not intimidated by technical detail, compliance requirements or customers who expect precision.
- Commercial ownership: you've been accountable for renewal and expansion numbers, and you know how to help drive a negotiation that lands well for both sides, not just relationship health.
- Operational discipline: you can manage multiple account plans, commercial opportunities and cross-functional workstreams at once, while keeping CRM data and forecasts accurate.
- High EQ, low ego: you know when to advise, when to push and when to just fix it.
Nice to Have, Not Required
- Experience in engineering, construction, manufacturing or another technically dense industry
- Experience managing relationships with standards bodies, OEMs or manufacturers, or platform and channel partners
- Experience helping a small account-management or customer-success function mature its operating rhythm
- Proven success managing and growing a seven-figure ARR book of business
- Experience working in distributed or async teams spanning North America and Australia
What We're NOT Looking For
- “I'm looking for a people-management role.” This is a senior individual-contributor position with no direct reports.
- “I need a mature playbook already in place.” A first draft exists, but you'll be expected to pressure-test it, improve it and help make it stick.
- “I'll wait for direction on every account decision.” Ownership means bringing a recommendation, making the call within your remit, and being accountable for the outcome.
- Relationship managers who avoid technical or commercial detail. Our accounts expect precision on both.
What Success Looks Like A focused set of measures tells us whether this is working across your named portfolio:
- Retention: strong gross retention and renewal outcomes across the strategic accounts you directly own.
- Expansion: performance against expansion targets, supported by a credible pipeline of opportunities within named accounts.
- Delivery against agreed actions: consistent follow-through on actions, success-plan milestones and commitments made through QBRs.
- Customer satisfaction and account health: strong CSAT alongside healthy adoption, stakeholder engagement and early identification of material risk.
Your First 90 Days
- Days 1 to 30: meet the key stakeholders across your assigned accounts, understand their goals and risks, assess current account health, and review the existing draft operating rhythm.
- Days 30 to 60: create a success plan and stakeholder map for each assigned account, then propose the operating rhythm, QBR cadence, core account artefacts, health signals and escalation paths you believe the team should adopt.
- Days 60 to 90: put the agreed rhythm into practice, run the first round of QBRs for your assigned accounts, and establish transparent Hard Problem actions, commercial next steps and measures of customer satisfaction.
Why This Job Is Interesting
1. You own the relationships that matter most. You'll take direct responsibility for a concentrated portfolio of technically and commercially significant accounts.
2. You shape how strategic accounts are run. You'll bring the proposal for the operating rhythm, help the team agree it, and turn it into a system that works in practice—without needing a people-management title to have influence.
3. You work at the intersection of customers, product and engineering. Your understanding of strategic accounts will help Calcs coordinate priorities and make better decisions across teams.
