Responsibilities & Activities:

Team Leadership and Supervision (25%):

- Supervise and lead the security team, ensuring they are well-trained and capable of responding to various security situations.
- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss updates, address concerns, and reinforce security protocols.
- Provide guidance and support to security personnel in their day-to-day activities.
- Administer Security Services with budgetary and resourcing requirements.
- Review and approve payroll for Security Guards.
- Develop and maintain monthly and yearly schedules of work and staffing deployment.
- Oversee Security Control Centre Operations (Dispatch).
- Assist Security Manager with hiring and recruitment.

Security Protocol Implementation (20%):

- Implement security procedures on a departmental level.
- Assist with the review and update of security protocols in collaboration with hospital management and healthcare professionals.
- Conduct training sessions to ensure staff awareness and adherence to established security procedures.
- Support effective security planning and implementation.

Incident Response and Crisis Management (20%):

- Implement effective incident response plans for security-related issues.
- Lead the security team in responding to crises, including de-escalation techniques and coordination with emergency services.
- Conduct post-incident debriefs to analyze and improve response strategies.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation (15%):

- Conduct regular risk assessments of the hospital environment, identifying potential security vulnerabilities.
- Stay informed about emerging security threats and implement proactive measures to address them.
- Promote a safe and secure environment for staff, patients, visitors, and volunteers.

Documentation and Reporting (10%):

- Maintain accurate records of security incidents, investigations, and daily activities.
- Prepare comprehensive reports for hospital management, detailing security trends, areas for improvement, and recommended actions.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements related to security incidents.
- Lead investigations and maintain accurate confidential documentation.
- Monitor and report on security incidents, actions, and resolutions.

Security Technology Management (5%):

- Oversee the day-to-day maintenance of security technology, such as surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarms.
- Collaborate with the IT department to ensure the security and integrity of the hospital's electronic systems.
- Process staff requests for access cards, photo IDs, and duress tags.

Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals (5%):

- Foster robust communication and collaboration with mental health professionals, nursing staff, and other healthcare teams.




- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to address security concerns and develop strategies for maintaining a therapeutic environment.
- Provide input into the development of safety plans for patients, considering their specific mental health needs.
- Liaise with external authorities and other stakeholders on security-related issues.
- Represent Security Services internally and externally as appropriate.
- Escalate security issues to the appropriate manager.
- Maintain external linkages to access information on best practices in security for addictions and mental healthcare institutions.
- Serve on or advise project teams on security impacts of pending site changes.

Education & Specific Training:

- Completion of a recognized 2-year community college Law Enforcement Program or equivalent.

Credentials:

- Possession of relevant certifications, such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA), or Certified Institutional Protection Manager (CIPM), can enhance the candidate's qualifications.
- CPR & Emergency First Aid Certification.

Experience:

- Three (3) to Five (5) years of Security Services Experience, with preference given to those with experience in the hospital/healthcare/mental health setting.
- Three (3) to Five (5) years of direct Supervisory Experience in a unionized environment, with preference given to those with experience in the hospital/healthcare/mental health setting.
- Knowledge of Access Control Systems, Closed Circuit Video Surveillance, 2-way radio communications, and other forms of electronic security systems would be considered assets.
- Knowledge/expertise in budgetary matters as well as payroll functions.
- Training and experience in risk management practices.
- Knowledge of scheduling practices.
- Ability to communicate to groups of stakeholders and forums.
- Negotiation and crisis management skills.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of regulatory and legislative requirements of site security and enforcement.
- Bilingualism (French/English) or a third language is an asset.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications in the course of normal work duties.

Compensation & Benefits:

- Hiring Salary Range: $78,249.22 – $97,811.52 per year (based on qualifications and experience)
- Full Salary Range: $78,249.22 – $117,373.83 per year (reflecting potential growth within the role)
