Become an influential advocate for Indigenous education at John Abbott College as a Full-Time Indigenous Advisor. This role focuses on enriching the academic journey of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students through tailored support and inclusive programming.
Reporting directly to the Dean, you will implement effective strategies aimed at improving the transition and retention of Indigenous students. This includes creating and managing cultural events, providing psychosocial support, and advocating for the unique needs of these communities. Your lived experience and understanding of Indigenous issues will play a crucial role in shaping a supportive setting.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and oversee educational programs for Indigenous students • Prepare and manage funding reports and budgets • Liaise with academic departments to support students • Organize community engagement and cultural events • Track student statistics and offer academic support
Requirements: • Relevant undergraduate degree • Experience working with Indigenous communities • Knowledge of Indigenous languages a definite asset • Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of French an asset • Excellent organizational abilities
