Controls Systems Engineer or Technologist WE’RE HIRING
Controls Systems Engineer or Technologist
Kamloops or Williams Lake, BC | Full-time
Exceed Electrical Engineering designs and delivers electrical and control systems for municipal, commercial, and industrial clients across British Columbia — from water and wastewater treatment plants to materials handling and industrial networking projects. We work in environments where downtime isn’t an option, which means our team gets to solve problems that actually matter, using the most current technology available. With offices in Kamloops and Williams Lake, we’re close to the projects and the people we serve.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Controls Systems Engineer or Technologist to join our Kamloops or Williams Lake team and take ownership of projects across central and northern BC. You’ll move fluidly between design, programming, and commissioning — and between the office and the field — while building the kind of client relationships that turn one project into the next five.
This is a hands‑on role for someone who’s as comfortable troubleshooting a control panel onsite as they are refining a schematic at their desk. Experience with water and wastewater treatment, materials handling, pumping systems, or similar industrial processes will make you a strong fit.
Why Exceed
You’ll work in a collaborative, family‑first workplace where good work is noticed and client relationships are built to last. We back our people with the training, autonomy, and trust it takes to do impactful, challenging work — without the bureaucracy of a bigger firm. Without you, there is no us.
And then there’s where you’ll be doing it. Williams Lake and the wider Cariboo‑Chilcotin put you minutes from world‑class fishing, hunting, and mountain biking, with lakes, backcountry,

and wide‑open skies as your everyday backdrop — all a fraction of the cost, and the commute, of the big city.
Prefer Kamloops? Our head office puts you at the center of it all — world‑class mountain biking trails right in town and Sun Peaks Resort, BC’s second‑largest ski area, just up the road. Kamloops also gives you easy access to BC and National Parks, plus major cities like Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton, so a weekend getaway is always within reach.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be involved from initial concept through to project close‑out — developing technical specifications, reviewing and correcting control schematics, and reverse‑engineering existing systems as needed. Day to day, that looks like:
Designing electrical control panels and control systems
Programming PLCs and HMIs
Running testing and verification (FAT and SAT) to confirm systems perform as designed
Traveling across the province for field reviews, client meetings, troubleshooting, and commissioning
Mentoring junior engineers and designers through technical challenges
Leading client meetings and translating their requirements into deliverable scope
What You Bring
A Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, or a two-year+ Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology or equivalent
Minimum of 3 years of experience in an electrical and controls environment
Engineers:

registration (or eligibility) with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC, with P.Eng. status or actively working toward it. Technologists: registration (or eligibility) with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC
Proficiency in PLC programming across platforms such as Schneider Modicon, Allen‑Bradley, and Siemens
Experience with HMI software such as iFIX, FactoryTalk, WinCC, or VTScada
A solid grasp of networking principles — switching and routing; firewall experience is a plus
Working knowledge of virtualized environments
Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuinely hands‑on approach to problem‑solving
Clear, confident communication — written and verbal — and a knack for building client trust quickly
An entrepreneurial streak and the drive to take real ownership of your projects
A valid passport and driver’s license, and Canadian citizenship or permanent residency
This position is Safety Sensitive; successful candidates may be required to complete a pre-employment alcohol and drug test and background check.
What We Offer
Salary: $80,000 – $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience
Medical, Basic Life, AD&D;, Critical Illness, and Long‑Term Disability coverage, plus dependent coverage and emergency travel benefits
Extended health, prescription drug, paramedical, and virtual health care coverage
Dental coverage, including basic/preventative and major services
Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)
Paid vacation time plus 5 paid health days annually, in addition to statutory holidays, Boxing Day, and Easter Monday
Ongoing professional development — training, courses, seminars, and conferences
Flexible hours
Regular company events and team-building activities
