Position Summary
The Peer Support/Senior Caseworker position supports clients through MFBCS’s ASPIRE program by providing case management, peer support, resource navigation, and community-based assistance. The successful candidate will work closely with clients to understand their needs, develop action plans, connect them with appropriate resources, and provide culturally sensitive support, particularly to Arabic-speaking individuals and families.
Key Responsibilities
Meet with clients, assess their needs, and develop individualized action plans.
Connect clients with appropriate resources related to food security, housing, education, employment, skills development, and mental health.
Provide compassionate, non-judgmental peer and emotional support to clients.
Support clients experiencing distress and identify when additional qualified or crisis intervention is required.
Conduct risk assessments and escalate high-risk situations according to established protocols.
Provide warm referrals and liaise with community organizations, healthcare providers, crisis services, and other resources when required.
Maintain accurate and confidential client records, case notes, referrals, and incident reports.
Support and mentor volunteer caseworkers and peer supporters.
Promote the ASPIRE program through community outreach, presentations, and workshops.
Provide culturally responsive support to Arabic-speaking clients and help reduce language barriers to accessing services.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or degree in Social Services, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field.
Fluent in Arabic and English.
Experience in case management, social services, peer support, crisis support, or a related field.
Robust communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in challenging situations.
Compassionate, culturally sensitive, and client-focused.
Robust organizational and documentation skills.
Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check required.
Willingness to complete MFBCS training, including crisis and suicide-intervention training.
Assets
Experience working with Arabic-speaking newcomers or families.
Experience in a non-profit or community-service organization.
Additional language skills.
Training in crisis intervention, mental health first aid, or peer support.
