Own and improve safety performance of distribution centers and branch locations, including injury rates, audit results, claims management and compliance
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and applicable federal and provincial legislation
Implement EHS initiatives and strategies addressing OSHA, ergonomics, injury and illness reduction, hazard communication, environmental matters, emergency preparedness and employee safety
Support leaders and team members with accident and incident root-cause investigations, remediation and prevention activities
Develop and manage business-critical projects and programs with significant financial or legal impact
Develop, plan, organize and direct on-site security staff activities at distribution centers
Investigate and recover stolen or lost assets with Regional EHS and Corporate Investigations
Manage complex EHS improvement programs across distribution centers and branches
Inform the Director, EH&S; of critical business incidents and provide monthly project and incident reports
Conduct audits, inspections and investigations and ensure corrective action and follow-up
Support and mentor joint health and safety committees
Maintain legally and company-required documentation and records
Prepare government agency reports and interface with governmental agencies and inspectors
Advise stakeholders and provide excellent customer service
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary diploma specific to a health and safety discipline
Minimum of 5 years of direct EHS experience, preferably in distribution or manufacturing
Thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation
Technical knowledge and abilities related to safety matters
High-level verbal and written communication skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and team members at all organizational levels
Ability to deal professionally and tactfully with government agencies, authorities and inspectors
Experienced trainer able to create and deliver high-impact training programs
Familiarity and experience with ISO standards, processes and audits
Ability to manage in a fast-paced, adaptable environment
Professional EHS certification preferred
Ability to travel approximately 15–20% of the time
