The Centre is licensed by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) and accredited by the Canadian Centre for Accreditation. We are currently looking for permanent full-time Clinical Trauma Therapist to join our team.

ROLE FUNCTION:

Reporting to the Manager of GPS and Specialized Counselling and Therapy Programs, the Clinical Trauma Therapist conducts comprehensive assessments and provides individual therapy and case management (in accordance with evidence-based practices) to children and youth who are impacted by trauma due to sexual harm, in their country of origin or racial stress.

The Clinical Trauma Therapist is responsible for the development of treatment plans and ensuring that the recommended treatment goals are implemented in a holistic, effective, and evidence-based manner. The Clinical Trauma Therapist will liaise with community partners/services to ensure the continuity of care for their clients.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains an active clinical caseload providing comprehensive trauma-informed assessment, clinical interventions, follow-up and transition planning.

Work in collaboration with the child/youth and their family to define a support plan that connects child/youth to required services.

Formulate client-centered and evidence-based treatment recommendations in alignment with the program goals.Review and evaluate the recommendations, treatment, care/service plan in consultation with the client, family and other service providers.

Deliver clinical services through a client-centered lens that identifies client strengths and addresses barriers to accessing care.

Directly monitor the client’s treatment progress and response using measurement-based tools.

Communicate, as appropriate, significant changes in client progress and needs to care partners.





Identify the need for additional consultation and/or referral to other services or specialties and supports youth to access them.

Clinically document all findings and interventions in a clear and concise manner in the client’s clinical record.

Maintain clinical records, assessments, and reports according to agency and program policy and procedures.

Identify on a case-by-case basis the educational needs of clients, families and service providers and provides education in the most appropriate format.

Demonstrated knowledge of the history and effects of systemic racism on racialized children/youth and their ability to access mental health and addictions supports.

General Duties

Attend and participate in team meetings.

Supervise students enrolled in clinical programs.

Ensure data collection and management are completed in accordance with LCC policies and procedures.

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Participate in all mandatory agency and program training and in-service processes.

Assume responsibility for maintaining their own professional development, including keeping up to date with current developments in the field and acquiring new skills to best serve the children/youth and families with the program.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Proven ability to conduct comprehensive trauma assessments and formulate strengths-based treatment interventions.

Application of a variety of treatment modalities, particularly Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) and culturally adapting modalities.

Ability to utilize measurement-based assessment tools to inform treatment planning and progress monitoring.

Knowledge of and experience with child/youth-specific clinical interventions and approaches (e.g. youth engagement and child/youth-centered care).

Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and crisis intervention.

Understanding of psychiatric diagnoses and formulation of a mental health assessment

Knowledge of engagement strategies and proven ability to engage racialized and marginalized children/youth

Proven ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a transdisciplinary team and partner agencies/organizations both on the team and in the community

Thorough understanding of intersectionality and the issues impacting racialized children/youth.

Strong knowledge in applicable theories and evidence-based treatment modalities.

Understanding of related/applicable legal and legislative procedures (CYFSA, PHIPA, YCJA, etc.).





Utilize computer databases, forms and templates to document client service interactions and service reporting.

Complete all documentation in an organized, logical, easily understood, concise manner, that is suitable to the audience.

Demonstrate personal and professional boundaries and maintain privacy and confidentiality of client information.

Employ an ethical framework as prescribed by policy and procedures.

Represent the program and agency both internally and externally reflecting agency values and core principles.

Present information to various internal and external audiences in an organized, logical, easily understood, concise manner, that is suitable to the format and audience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Two to five years’ experience in a comparable role with the defined population (e.g. racialized children/youth with mental health and addictions concerns) preferred.

Knowledge of immigration processes and preferred experience supporting families to access immigration, settlement, and integration services

Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and the ability to apply trauma-informed principles when supporting children, youth, adults, and families

EDUCATION AND TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS

A University Degree in Social Work, Nursing or Occupational Therapy or a degree in a related health or social science field.

Current registration with the relevant regulatory college in good standing: College of Nurses (RN), Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers, College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario

In addition to the above, therapists in specialized programs require the following:

Training in equity and inclusion principles and practices, with specific expertise in the mental health impacts on children and youth who have experienced racism or discrimination based on race.

Knowledge of the history and effects of systemic racism on racialized youth and their ability to access mental health supports.

Demonstrated awareness of social justice movements and anti-racism movements and the effects of white supremacist groups on racialized youth.

Lived experience of racism and discrimination based on race-related factors that affect quality of life.
