Join the Canadian Museum of Nature as a Specimen Project Officer in Gatineau, QC, from October 2026 to January 2027. Support digitization of herbarium specimens while enhancing your skills in data management and photography.
This temporary full time position allows you to work under the Botany Curator, focusing on high-priority specimens transferred from Canadian National Parks. The role requires expertise in databasing, digital file management, and the application of preventive conservation methods. You'll collaborate closely within a diverse team to streamline workflows and coordinate data capture for museum collections.
Key Responsibilities:
• Process and digitize herbarium specimens efficiently • Coordinate data and images for collection systems • Act as primary contact for workflow challenges • Repair and handle specimens carefully • Maintain effective communication with team members
Requirements: • Post-secondary education in Sciences or Museum studies • Experience with high-volume databasing and digital photography • Familiarity with natural history specimen handling • Strong collaboration skills in team environments • English or French essential; bilingualism a plus
