- Pitch original stories about technology and AI that engage target audiences
- Break news, follow developments, and provide updates as stories evolve
- Report live on video, radio, digital live story pages, and live programming
- Gather news in the field and report from locations whenever possible
- Cover major or fast-moving events under pressure
- Research, interview, and gather current information
- Create relatable content for a diverse Canadian audience aged 30-49
- Generate journalism that elevates a range of voices and perspectives
- Shape scripts and file text, audio, and video stories across platforms
- Prioritize mobile and streaming audiences
- Collaborate with editors and vettors to improve writing, headlines, and text
- Produce strong visual and audio stories
- Identify important issues quickly, prioritize demands, and ensure appropriate coverage
- Develop and maintain contacts with varied sources; lead the beat and share expertise with colleagues
- Apply legal journalistic knowledge and the ethical principles of CBC/Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices
- Collaborate with business-team colleagues and other CBC departments
Requirements
- English and French language skills: reading, speaking, and writing
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years relevant full-time experience
- Excellent understanding of technology and AI and their impacts on audiences
- Sources and contacts in the tech and AI community and beyond
- Knowledge and understanding of diversity within the tech beat and target audience
- Experience writing, researching, fact-checking, and packaging text, audio, and video pieces
- Excellent presentation skills; comfortable reporting live and unscripted
- Deep familiarity with social media and ability to surface trending stories
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and across departments
- Proven ability to work in a high-stress, tight-deadline environment
- Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as needed
- Knowledge of the public broadcaster's role, responsibilities, and journalistic standards
- University degree in journalism or equivalent preferred
- Cover letter and resume required
- Two examples each of video, audio, text, and live coverage required
- Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing
- Successful candidates must complete a mandatory criminal record check and other applicable background checks
