Kumon Assistant / Centre Staff
Position: Kumon Learning Assistant / Centre Staff
Employment Type: Part-Time, 15–20 hours per week
Location: Renfrew / Edmonton Trail Kumon Centre, Calgary, Alberta
Work Days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday
Reports To: Centre Instructor
About the Position
We are seeking a responsible, confident, and highly capable individual to join our team at the Renfrew/Edmonton Trail Kumon Centre.
The successful candidate will work closely with students in the Kumon Math and Reading programs, provide appropriate guidance, monitor student progress, and communicate professionally with parents. The ideal candidate should have strong math and reading/writing skills, excellent communication skills, and a genuine interest in helping children become independent learners.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Instruction
- Work directly with students in Kumon Math and Reading programs.
- Mark and review worksheets accurately and efficiently.
- Provide clear explanations and appropriate guidance when students need help.
- Help students identify and correct their mistakes.
- Encourage students to work independently and develop problem-solving skills.
- Monitor students' pace, accuracy, concentration, and progress.
- Provide positive encouragement while maintaining appropriate expectations.
- Support early learners and students at different ability levels.
Parent Communication
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents regarding student progress and centre activities.
- Answer routine parent questions and direct concerns to the Centre Instructor when appropriate.
- Provide meaningful feedback about students' work habits, progress, and areas requiring attention.
- Build positive relationships with students and families.
Centre Operations
- Prepare, organize, and file student worksheets and learning materials.
- Maintain accurate student records.
- Help keep the centre clean, organized, and ready for students.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures as required.
- Complete administrative and organizational tasks outside student class hours.
- Follow Kumon policies, procedures, and instructional methods.
- Work collaboratively with the Centre Instructor and other staff members.
Qualifications & Skills
The ideal candidate should have:
- Strong math skills
- Strong reading and writing skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent communication skills with both students and parents
- Patience and confidence when working with children
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- A positive, qualified, and dependable attitude
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Ability to manage multiple students and tasks efficiently
- Previous teaching, tutoring, childcare, or education experience is an asset
Availability & Schedule
The successful candidate must be available to work 15–20 hours per week on:
- Monday
- Wednesday
- Friday
- Saturday
The position requires flexibility to work a couple of hours outside regular student class hours for preparation, marking, organizing worksheets, student records, and other centre-related responsibilities.
Consistent availability on the scheduled days is important.

The right person should be able to create a positive learning environment while also maintaining structure and expectations. Strong communication is especially important because this role involves regular interaction with both students and parents.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who understands that the goal is not simply to help students finish their worksheets, but to help them develop confidence, independence, focus, perseverance, and strong study habits.
Compensation
Hourly Wage: $___15__ per hour.
