Job Summary
Quality Control Supervisor
The Shop Floor Quality Control Supervisor works directly on the manufacturing floor to verify that products conform to company standards, customer blueprints, and regulatory requirements. This hands-on role catches defects early, manages non-conformances, and collaborates with production teams to keep manufacturing efficient and accurate.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspections: Perform receiving inspections on raw materials, in-process checks during manufacturing, and final checks on completed goods.
- Measurement & Testing: Use precision measuring tools—such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and dial indicators—to verify tolerances and dimensions
- Documentation: Record inspection results, maintain traceability logs (heat/lot numbers), and flag any out-of-spec items
- Non-Conformance Management: Document and tag defective materials or parts, stop production if critical errors occur, and report issues to management.
- Corrective Action: Partner with production and engineering teams to find root causes for defects and support corrective/preventive actions (CAPA
- Calibration Control: Verify that all measuring and test equipment are properly calibrated and in working order before use.
- Safety & Compliance: Maintain clean workspace standards (5S)
and comply with all Occupational Health and Safety (OHSA) requirements on the shop floor.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 2–5+ years of quality control or inspection experience in a manufacturing, machining, or industrial production environment.
- Technical Literacy: Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications (including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing—GD&T;).
- Tool Proficiency: Hands-on skill with precision handheld measurement instruments.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written skills to report defects and coordinate daily priorities with machine operators and supervisors.
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with Quality Management Systems like ISO 9001:2015.
- Welding: Multiple years of manual and machine welding experience (great to have)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk on an active industrial shop floor for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift up to 50 lbs and wear mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and steel-toe boots.
Salary commensurate with experience $70k+
