We are looking for someone who can step confidently into a busy optometry and optical environment with minimal training. The ideal candidate will be particularly robust in optical sales, patient communication and front-desk operations, while also being comfortable assisting with clinical pre-testing.

This position is best suited to an optician with previous practice experience who is comfortable managing multiple patient-facing responsibilities and can contribute from the beginning of the contract.

- Recommend appropriate lens designs, materials and coatings based on prescription, lifestyle and visual needs
- Build rapport with patients and effectively guide them through their eyewear options
- Take accurate optical measurements including PDs and fitting heights
- Dispense eyewear and perform adjustments, repairs and troubleshooting
- Process optical orders accurately
- Assist with patient check-in and check-out
- Answer telephone inquiries and assist with appointment coordination
- Maintain efficient patient flow within the clinic
- Assist with routine clinical pre-testing, including: OCT, Axial length measurements, Corneal topography, Autorefraction and other routine pre-testing

- Work collaboratively with the optometrist and clinical team

Qualifications

- Registered/Licensed Optician in Ontario
- Minimum 2 years of optical experience preferred
- Strong optical sales and patient communication skills
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic lenses, measurements, dispensing and frame adjustments
- Comfortable working at the front desk and interacting with patients by phone and in person
- Able to remain organized and qualified in a busy clinic environment
- Comfortable learning and using ophthalmic diagnostic equipment
- Previous OCT, axial length or corneal topography experience is an asset
- Dependable, proactive and able to work with minimal supervision

Who We Are Looking For

Because this is a short-term coverage position, we are particularly interested in an optician who can adapt quickly and work confidently.

You should be comfortable:

- Engaging patients and having meaningful eyewear conversations
- Providing confident optical recommendations
- Managing several responsibilities during busy periods
- Assisting at the front desk when required
- Taking initiative rather than waiting for continuous direction
- Working as part of a fast-moving clinical and optical team

Position: Temporary Licensed Optician – Vacation Coverage

Contract: September 12 – October 17, 2026 and potential for ongoing opportunities.
Experience: 2+ years preferred
