Full Job Summary

We are seeking a disciplined and alert Overnight Security Guard to protect our client’s property and assets in Hamilton. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, capable of working independently, and possesses the stamina to remain focused during the late-night and early-morning hours. While prior security experience is preferred, character and reliability matter more. This role is best suited for someone who understands that vigilance is the primary defense against nighttime threats.

Your duties may include:

- Monitoring access points
- Conducting regular foot patrols of the interior of the property




- Responding to alarms, suspicious activity, or disturbances
- Performing lock checks and ensuring all doors and windows are secure
- Writing clear and accurate incident reports after every event or patrol
- Identifying potential safety hazards (e.g., leaks, fire risks, electrical issues) during patrols
- Coordinating with emergency services or law enforcement when necessary

This is not a desk job. Many nights are uneventful, but when something happens, you need to be alert to spot it early and respond quickly, professionally, and within the boundaries of the law.

Shifts are primarily static overnight hours (e.g., 10 PM–6 AM or 12 AM–8 AM) and will include weekends and holidays. You may be assigned to a single location long-term or rotate between sites in the Hamilton area depending on client needs. Cedar provides site-specific orientation and ongoing training for all employees.

Requirements

- Valid Ontario Security Guard Licence (mandatory)
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C (preferred)
- Clean criminal record (a background check will be conducted)
- Professional appearance and demeanor — you are representing both Cedar and the client
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (8–12 hour shifts)
- Solid ability to remain awake, alert, and engaged during night hours
- Proven independence and comfort working alone with minimal supervision
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to write clear incident reports using professional language
- Reliable and punctual — showing up on time, every time, is a baseline expectation
- Previous security experience is preferred but not required
- Must be able to commute to sites within Hamilton
