Engineering Professional – Aerostructures Integrator
We are supporting our client, a major player in the Canadian aerospace industry, in the search for an Engineering Professional – Aerostructures Integrator.
In this role, you will independently carry out well-defined technical assignments and contribute to engineering decisions in accordance with established practices. You will participate in the design, definition, and integration of aircraft structures, from concept development through detailed definition, while supporting production, certification, and in-service modifications.
Roles and Responsibilities
Structural Design and Definition
- Develop and revise structural concepts, 3D models, assemblies, installation drawings, and detailed drawings for assigned aircraft areas.
- Define metallic and composite parts, joints, interfaces, fastening concepts, and tolerances in accordance with applicable design requirements.
- Apply sound design practices while considering load paths, manufacturability, assembly, inspection, maintainability, weight, and cost.
- Ensure the quality and maturity of the technical definition through production release.
Technical Integration and Collaboration
- Coordinate structural definition with loads and stress, materials and processes, systems installation, aerodynamics, interiors, manufacturing, and quality teams.
- Identify and resolve geometric conflicts and physical interface issues.
- Support technical trade-off studies to determine appropriate design solutions.
- Participate in design reviews and clearly communicate design intent, assumptions, constraints, and open technical issues.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure the successful integration of structural solutions.
Production, Certification and Compliance
- Support substantiation and certification activities by providing complete and traceable design definitions and technical justification.
- Support investigations related to issues identified in production, at suppliers, and in service.
- Participate in root-cause analyses and the development of corrective design actions.
- Manage design changes and maintain product definition and configuration data within the applicable PLM environment.
- Perform technical checks, investigate issues, and recommend solutions in accordance with established methods and standards.
- Identify technical risks early and provide reliable progress updates on assigned activities.
Required Profile
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
- A technologist diploma may be considered depending on relevant experience.
- Typically 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in aircraft structural design, definition, or integration is highly desirable.
Technical Knowledge
- Good knowledge of aircraft structural configuration and detailed design.
- Knowledge of metallic and composite structural design principles.
- Good understanding of joints, fasteners, tolerances, and GD&T; principles.
- Experience with technical drawings, 3D product definition, manufacturability, assembly, and inspection.
- Knowledge of aerospace materials, processes, and design standards.
- Understanding of certification principles and configuration management.
Tools and Methods
- Proficiency with CATIA V5.
- Knowledge of ENOVIA and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of NX and Teamcenter is considered an asset.
- Good understanding of PLM, product definition, engineering change, and configuration management processes.
